I called my local newspaper (Dallas Morning News) because I was ready to cancel my subscription. (They won't take written requests.)

Not only do I not care about its left-leaning trend, delivery is not terribly reliable either. It regularly runs late (I call 1-2 times a week on this) and when it does come it may be in (choose from among: flower bed, street, neighbor's yard, other neighbor's yard -- so far roof hasn't been a choice).

Apparently they're desperate for business. They offered a rate for daily delivery at 1/3 of their normal rate AND knocked 1/2 off what I owed on back issues. Since I do like to follow sports (plus coupons on Sunday) I agreed to the deal.

So for those of you who still subscribe, you might be able to greatly lower your price!

I am sorry to hear that you agreed to the deal

they make money based on eyeballs, the more subscriptions they have; the more they can justify charging advertisers

You should have cancelled.

Why did you let them manipulate you over pennies?

Sports news and coupons? Jesus man. Both of those are available free everywhere.

Call them back and cancel.

Parents get the paper sometimes, I mean they pay to have the Advocate delivered but they don't always get it. There is an automated phone chain to complain on. Waste of time and money, I feel sorry for them because they are too old to change, cancel that garbage paper and let it die.

Get some conservative voices and even I'll subscribe. Stay progressive and propagandistic, I hope they die a quick death. You know come up with an innovative business plan. And I'm not talking about the Epoch Times.

Going from $127 to $48 for 8 weeks isn't pennies.

I miss holding and reading the Sunday paper at breakfast. It's just not the same experience pulling it up on a keyboard and peering at the words on a screen. I know that sounds corny.

I won’t ever subscribe to another newspaper unless they pay me, and even then I’d think twice about it. What a shame what’s happened to that once venerable profession.

So you called to cancel, but instead got talked in to extending your subscription. Wow, you really showed them.

So, you were paying $825 a year and reduced it to $416 a year. Congrats. You win Sucker of the Week on TD.

I cancelled my subscription to the Los Angeles Times 5 years ago after being a subscriber for 22 years. Like you I was getting the paper mostly for the sports section, but I just couldn't take the propaganda anymore. They also require a phone call to cancel, and when I called to cancel they offered me a 7-day a week subscription for a year for a dollar a month. I declined and told them I wounld't take their paper any longer if they gave it to me for free. It's not about the money. It's about the principle.
