I guess it was only a matter of time. My only surprise is that she didn't say that white evangleicals were especially to blame.

quote:

The New York Times published an op-ed Friday that blamed evangelical Christians for the coronavirus pandemic.

The argument, by journalist and author Katherine Stewart, is that because religious voters supported Trump, that means he governs without regard for science.

Stewart also claims that Republicans, more than Democrats, are likely to deny science.

In her op-ed, titled “The Road to Coronavirus Hell Was Paved by Evangelicals,” she writes:

Donald Trump rose to power with the determined assistance of a movement that denies science, bashes government and prioritized loyalty over professional expertise. In the current crisis, we are all reaping what that movement has sown.

At least since the 19th century, when the proslavery theologian Robert Lewis Dabney attacked the physical sciences as “theories of unbelief,” hostility to science has characterized the more extreme forms of religious nationalism in the United States.

Blaming Jews or Muslims for anything is considered hate speech.

Blaming Christians for things gets you front page op-eds in the New York Times.

I laugh when liberals criticize Russian media but dont see the same thing when it is right in front of their faces. Both are controlled. One by the state and the other by ideological bias.

Or the science of abortion terminating a life.

Or the science of sun cycles and Earth's axis moving to cause changes in climate.

I thought it was Trump's racism and lack of diversity on his CV-19 Task Force that was to blame?

But now that I think about, she may have a point. I think there was a passage in the Bible about Jesus turning water into bat soup.

Another example of an opinion piece that is not guided by facts, which is ironic given the nature of the criticism against Trump and Evangelicals.

It’s weird because South Korea has a higher percentage of practicing Christians than the US, and yet they are lauded by the left for their response to the virus.

48% of the cases are in NY.

I wonder how many Evangelical Christians live there?
