New for today at least

Many talk about work weeks being less than 40 hours.

Am I the only one who would totally be happy in a job with 40 hours in 4 days?

Hell. I'd be thrilled to do 40 in 3 days.

Nobody really works more than a half a day on Friday anyway. I'll take my extra two hours in the evenings and keep the 5 day week. Evenings already feel short enough as it is.

There is a theory that with advancements in technology the entire need to work will be greatly reduced.

We are not prepared for the social impact of “idle hands”. Everyone just assumes less work will lead to nirvana.

I'ld just be thrilled if the businesses downtown got together to stagger their office hours so everyone isn't having to come to and go from work at the same time.

My employer just issued a policy to allow for a 4 day work week. It is with approval to work the alternative schedule. I intend to pursue it shortly. I’ve never been able to work such a schedule and I’ve wanted it for several years.

Based on what I've heard from many folks in office/white-collar jobs, at least half of their work time is spent dicking around and giving the appearance of work. If you can be just as productive in 25 hours as in 40, then by all means, work 25. We just have an unfortunate association with time spent working as a value versus productivity.

I dont care when people leave for the day, as long as the work is done. First time they leave and i have to clean up something behind them, then the privilege is revoked. I used to work for a dickhead that would leave the office @ 3 but would often call back to talk to each of us in the office @ 455. I hated that prick. No need to watch a clock if your work is done.

My wife used to work 4x10s and she loved the 3day weekend every week. Or scheduling drs appts on mondays and not having to burn pto.

I’ll remember that when I’m in my kayak fishing this Friday since I work 4-10s.

Nope. Working 4 10's was glorious. I never got sick, never felt like I needed a vacation, never got burned out.

The problem is that people (i.e. employers) equate time with output. They pay you based on the time, not the output because time is easier to measure and track. This causes a ton of inefficiency and poor morale as so many people are literally just counting down the hours until they can leave while contributing nothing. For jobs that aren't dealing directly with servicing customers, we need to get away from paying people based on how long they are physically present in an office somehow.

It would cut down on me having a beer in the office at 8pm on Friday.

it makes no sense to limit our work day to such a pussy, 8-hour schedule

4, 10s is greatly better

3.5 12s would be beast mode

i own my own business so i set my hours but it's nothing like a regular 5, 8s schedule
