I’ve posted about the Wisner Trust scandal/drama before. Removing any lingering illusion of propriety, Cantrell appeals ruling to give City cash

Here’s the latest.
quote:
A Louisiana appellate court ruled in favor of the city of New Orleans in the long-running legal dispute over the proceeds of the former Wisner Trust, upholding a lower court decision that named the city as the primary benefactor of the vast land holdings that generate nearly $10 million a year in revenue.
In a decision on Monday, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeal affirmed that the city is the sole owner of nearly 50,000 acres of oil-rich land in Jefferson, St. John the Baptist and Lafourche parishes that was placed in a century-long trust by the late philanthropist Edward Wisner in 1914. Wisner divided the proceeds of the trust among his heirs and several local institutions.
The court also upheld an earlier ruling that invalidated the agreement former Mayor LaToya Cantrell signed in 2020 to indefinitely extend the sharing of revenues with Wisner's heirs and Tulane University, Louisiana State University and other benefactors.
The ruling is a win for the City Council and Mayor Helena Moreno, who along with her former council colleagues filed a lawsuit in 2022 arguing that the money belonged to the city and that disbursement of public funds should be more transparent.

Now that it has been declared city owned. I wonder if the city would be willing to sell it like the Caesars lease payments.
Might be a good investment with the city in dire financial straits and Port Fourchon acquiring full rights to the land.

Am I understanding this correctly, the court totally ignored what the man intended for his money (trust), and instead gave it all to New Orleans?

If so…

Ehhhhhh. This is an issue that has been in the courts off and on for 35-40 years and this is probably not finished. The details make your eyes gloss over.

Which is why it should revert to his original intentions imho.
Then again, 4chubs people are all about theft.

He intended for it all to go to the city in 2014. His heirs (and the heirs of his wife's attorney iirc) have been fighting tooth and nail for over a decade to subvert his will.

Not specifically. I believe that initial split was only for the first 100 years, which ended over a decade ago.

You skipped this part:

Is there proof of this in writing?

That would be incredibly short-sighted. Which actually makes it a viable and even likely option, unfortunately.

It’s stipulated in the trust.
These were the terms
quote:
Under the century-long agreement that expired in 2014 but Cantrell sought to continue, the city received 35% of revenues while Wisner's heirs received 40% and Tulane University and LSU each received 12%. (Tulane and LSU surrendered their interests in the land to the city in 2025 in return for one-time funding from the city for capital projects.)
The city is the trustee and the entity that is named as the owner of the land in the original trust agreement.

You’ve also posted that Trayvon martin was shot and killed by a police officer and Sandra bland was murdered by jail workers.
Care to correct your previous statements yet?
($100 says you continue to ignore)

This sounds as if it was intended as only a 100 year trust, thus reverting back into possession of heirs

Just wait until the city of New Orleans gets hold of the Tom & Gayle Benson trust. She's leaving most of her money the the city. Watch the vultures move in and steal it all.

No. Wisner bequeathed the land to NOLA with the intention to split the revenues for 100 years. After 100 years it’s the city’s property with no strings.

I have to think that the “ for one hundred years “ is the significant difference as it sunsets into original possession, that being heirs
Posted on 5/22/26 at 8:22 am to Nosevens
The heirs were never given possession. The city was given the property by wisner upon death.
This has been litigated numerous times and the heirs lose because their argument has no merit.

Wisner is rolling in his grave watching his money go to a shithole, 3rd world city

He entrusted it to the city. That’s actually exactly what he wanted. I doubt his corpse cares that a bunch of miserable people on a message board love to hate New Orleans.
