It represents a broader group of people and not just the jam packed population centers.

Its going to be amazing when Trump wins more EVs than anyone since Reagan in 2020.

The thing that sucks is the Dems are going to make the delegates nonbinding so a lot will vote D anyway.

It seems the national Democrat Party’s agenda is to do this in every state where the Democrats control the state legislature and where there’s a Democrat in the Governor’s office.

Next on the party’s to do list is to increase the number of associate justices of the Supreme Court of the United States when the party controls both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

Both will fundamentally change this country.

Lol, you can’t defend your point.

I know Why we set up the electoral college.

I am Asking why it’s better than an popular vote at representing the voice of the people.

Do you think the people of NY and CA should be able to determine the policy of every other state in the country? Is that representative of the broad cross sections of society/culture?

This is unconstitutional and is specifically stated out in the constitution. This is "for show" to feed their idiot left wing base.

Interstate Compacts are unconstitutional.

Especially when these two states aren't exactly looking to prohibit non citizens from voting.

The people who support this also think New York should be free to prosecute Paul Manafort for crimes the know he's already been convicted of on the federal level. They don't even realize how they contradict themselves.

No, but why should that be how we decide who runs the country?

And does the current system even do that? Ask over 4 million California conservatives.

The current system leads to candidates catering to swing states and people in firmly red or blue states basically not mattering.

Might as well get rid of the concepts of states and let the Federal government control everything. Apparently these people don't get the importance of the EC.

This is all nothing more than political grandstanding. If they really believed in the popular vote they wouldn't wait until states that equal 270 EVs passed this compact for it to go into effect. Instead they would go ahead and put it into effect now. If they so strongly believe the national popular vote winner should always win the election why wait?

It shouldn't be. That's why we have the EC

Yes

That's also not true, specially these days. Hillary never even visited WI and barely went to MI and she lost those because she assumed they were in the bag for her.

Is there even an official national popular vote count? States are responsible for their voting procedures and vote tallies....seems fairly disconnected to me.

So is the EC more or less representative of a broad section of people?

And a follow up: when picking 1 person, why does drawing diversity of geography matter more than quantity of voters?
