An Egyptian lawyer has filed a case with the Public Prosecutor to close the Netflix platform after the trailer of “Queen Cleopatra" was released, which depicts the Greek historical figure as a black-skinned woman.

According to Egypt Independent, Mahmoud al-Semary demanded that all legal measures be taken against those responsible for the documentary and the management of the streaming platform for its participation in “this crime.” He also called for an investigation and for Netflix to be blocked in Egypt.

The complaint submitted against the streaming platform said that "most of what Netflix platform displays contradicts Islamic and societal values and principles, especially Egyptian ones."

It added that the platform displayed advertisements that attracted millions of people in the world to watch the documentary Queen Cleopatra, who was of Greek origin depicting her as black woman, unlike Egyptian history and civilization.

The case said that the documentary promotes Afrocentrism that is widely spread on social media, which have slogans and writings aimed at distorting and obliterating the Egyptian identity.

No chance for the outcome he desires. If Egyptians didn’t hate black folk before, they most certainly do now. Well done, Netflix.

I've never understood why black people want to associate with ancient Egypt. They enslaved hundreds of thousands of Africans, Middle Easterners, and jews. If historical slavery is so bad, why do they want to be the Egyptians, regardless of the "Kangz" status it grants them?

Cleopatra was Macedonian Greek like the other members of the Ptolemaic dynasty (not Egyptian) and may have also been of partial Persian ancestry.

Her reign (51-30 BC) was nearer in time to the present day than to the time of the construction of the Giza pyramids (2600-2500 BC).

Just want to make clear that you’re ok with going to any Court and trying to stifle an opinion you don’t like?

I don’t think that the Egyptian standard of Speech, and what is allowed and not allowed is something to cheer on, no matter how stupid or wrong the idea is.

I don’t like it when American Leftists kowtow to the Communist Chinese, and I don’t like it in this case either.

Yet you praise a guv who uses his power to go after a private business that disagrees with his viewpoint?

And let me be clear, taking away their taxing district was perfectly fine

Threatening them with tolls, creative taxes, on-site prisons, on-site affordable housing, competing theme parks, required human trafficking signage, increased inspections, forced salary hikes, etc is the very definition of communism

A lot of movies do this "based on a true story". Revenant was based on Hugh Glass a mountain man. He was left for dead. But he had no adopted indian son, that was just added for bonus points. And he did not kill the people who abandoned him, one was too young and the other was part of the military and he knew they would hang him if he killed him.

Master and Commander. The Akron that Russell Crow was chasing with radical design, built in the US. Was actually the US Constitution. But the Constitution kicked the Royal Navy arse over half the Atlantic so that wouldnt work. And they couldnt have the brits defeating it or the producer said hollywood would not fund it so he made it a french ship, lol.

One thing is true though the USS constitution was a radical design for the day, it had far less planking in the hull which made it far faster and maneuverable than any ship its size. Yet even with less planking it gained the nickname ole ironsides because cannon balls could not breech it.

Why? because the Constitution was made with live oak, which is harder than normal oak the brits used to make ships. It was also less susceptible to worms etc so the hull was far cleaner.

Ive spent a total of 9 weeks over the years in Egypt for work. They don't think they are/were subsaharan blacks. In fact they hate the idea. They also don't like the aliens theory on the pyramids.
