He looks tough with his aviator shades on though.

It was bad…. They also had a journalist describe the 5.56 round as violent, explosive, and concussive. then the internet posted pictures of their 12 year old daughters shooting ARs chambered in 5.56.

Navy small arms gms are usually fat, lazy and constantly trying to make other people look bad. At least from my experience working around them.

In his novels, Jack Carr calls out military commanders for failing up and not being actually experienced in combat. Sure they have medals, but these medals are mostly artificially "earned" during their political rise to prominance. Carr is a former NAVY Seal sniper for those who don't know.
Now I'm not saying this particular commanding officer is one of those fake political movers, but this photograph of him improperly using an M4 in many ways (backwards scope, stock not secured on his shoulder, elbow out like he's about to hit someone in the face) does lead one to believe he just might be.

The navy is an embarrassment at times.

The USS John McCain can’t aim? Lives up to its namesake.

Of course that's the case.
Even as a tanker, the officers were also "tank commanders". The officers spent more time on Humvees and at the toc, but when we rolled out, they were on a tank.
There was nothing quite like an LT that barely knew how to climb in the TCs hatch and he's then in charge of fighting and maneuvering his tank crew.
Total shite show. As a E-5, I had to gun for a BN XO for a Gunner because I was good and he wanted to score well on our Table 8. I was perfect in my 9 engagements and we would have shot a grand (1000/1000) but he bolo'd the TC engagement and we got 900/1000.
I told the CSM I was put after that. I even offered to shoot the engagement for the Major to get him a grand, which is a huge deal in armor land. Maybe 1-3 tanks in all of 1st CAV shoot a grand.
fricker shot 3 120mm sabots and I was watching them all miss and my heart was sinking.

In a Table 8, the Gunner shoots 9 main gun engagements and the tank commander shoots one engagement to simulate having a 3 man tank crew.
Well, one of the other 9 engagements, while the Gunner is engaging something, the TC has a 50 cal target to John Wayne, but the TC only pulls main gun triggers one engagement.

I have zero faith in the US Military's abilities anymore.

The man is the commanding officer of a state of the art US Destroyer. Out serving our country away from his family, keeeping you and yours safe. And this board decides to shite on him cuz he was handed a weapon for a photo op that has a backwards scope. Bunch of Barney Bad a$$'s on here.

A. Maybe it was too easy for him the other way.
B. That pic looks like Jesus is guiding his aim anyway.

How much combat do you think any Navy ship captain has faced since WWII? Carr is talking about people whose job is combat, which for the Navy is pretty well restricted to SOF and SOF support. I don't care if the captain of a ship can break down a rifle or set up a Claymore.

I wonder if the Public Affairs officer that took the photo and posted it has been reassigned to an ice-cutter?
