My problem with the Trump wall: it's solving an imaginary problem

It seems that people are completely separated from reality on this issue. It isn't 2006. We don't have mass migrations of illegals across our borders like we used to.

It's a problem that largely no longer exists.

Illegal crossings already lowest since 1971

quote:

President Trump says he wants to use the military to secure the border with Mexico until the U.S. can build a wall there. He says he is studying border security options with Defense Secretary James Mattis. One option is to send National Guard troops to help the border patrol.

Mr. Trump's call to militarize the border comes as illegal border crossings last year were at the lowest levels since 1971, reports CBS News correspondent Chip Reid.

Some more data on the topic
https://www.npr.org/2017/12/05/568546381/arrests-for-illegal-border-crossings-hit-46-year-low

Illegal border crossings in the year 2000 : 1,676,438

Illegal border crossings in the year 2017 : 310,531

There is a graph in the above link that shows a downward trend

Trump is trying to solve a problem that has already been solved

Just the threat of the wall and the military presence is freaking them the frick out. Besides, it's the cartels we have to deal with too. The Mexican government sure doesn't give a shite about them.

You think 310,000 illegals a year is not a problem? Damn.

It's basically solved because we have an administration in office enforcing our border laws.

The wall is not for this administration.

The wall is for future administrations who will be intentionally lazy on border security.

What, is there some minimum acceptable number for you? This number should be 0.

A million people illegally entering your country every three years doesn't qualify a problem as "solved."

With a country of over 320 million people I don't consider it to be much of a problem

Particularly when the number has been very quickly diminishing for over a decade

It's the trend that is important. The numbers are already trending downward without a wall and have been doing so for over a decade

And I'm sure roads will only be acceptably safe to you once motor vehicle accidents go to zero also right?

So your cutoff of Problem/Not a Problem is arbitrarily between 1.6million and 310k. Ok, thats at least good to know for future reference.

And no, its not "Solved". 310K people are crossing the border Illegally EVERY year. From just one (albeit the biggest) border and method of entering the US.

So not, its not Solved. Not by a long shot.

The entire premise of your entire comment is a lie

Is the data trending in the preferred direction without a wall? That is the question you should be asking yourself.

A physical wall is not just for reducing illegal entry into the country. We also have a problem with illegal drugs being smuggled in through the Southern border.

It's called being able to recognize a very obvious downward trend

Perhaps that is difficult for you. I don't know.
