Are you offering her for sale? What's the price and post some pics.

And just no to everybody who thinks there is something “more” or hidden. She just lacks documentation. She can’t produce it . She was born in a tent city as a refugee. There are no documents from Vietnam - no birth certificate. She is in the grey area. I’m not sure why people resist that idea so much.

I have a couple of questions.

What even was going to allow her to become a citizen when she dropped the ball? And, what has happened to prevent that event from happening again?

What do you think should happen? And, why? If possible, you should remove your personal feelings and knowledge of your cousin in law and present a logical reason for whatever remedy you see fit.

i'm going to read this thread with the expectation that some prog comes in here and demonstrates how little they actually care about immigrants

To go with the Trump monkey "send her to ____" comments? Why pick on a prog when you've got a full population of right wing posters itching to put her in a deportation camp?

Angry crowd here tonight wanting to deport ( lol ) a legal resident to who knows where for no reason other than who the frick knows.

A few things :

She came here legally . Her entire family is American including her parents , siblings, children and husband.
She has been working on this since at least 2009 . The issue is that she can’t provide the government with the documents they require because they don’t exist . And she can’t fabricate them because that would be illegal . And she keeps getting bounced through the bureaucracy.

And lol at all the posters turning my personal story into some larger point about illegal immigration. I am and always have been one of this boards most consistent illegal immigration opponents. Like for 14 years with the post history to prove it. Lol at all you guys who want to pretend I’m some open borders guy. I want to build the wall, end chain migration and favor immigration that is in OUR best interest ( by specific categories) .

I didn’t come here to make some comprehensive statement about immigration. I just came here to tell you a personal story about a family member . I wasn’t a hack that tried to clean it up, I presented it honestly and non emotionally . And damn, some of you Ol Baws are fricking PISSED.

I hope it gets worked out for your cousin, Pimp

People love to peacock and act hard about illegals but there are real life stories that need to have light shined on them

Nobody wants bad actors streaming in unchecked but the issues aren't black and white at all

With real immigration reform she could get it taken care of. As it is how do you pick out special cases in a sea of cheats?

God damn it Terry . Don’t make me agree with you you Gump Commanist sumbitch.

I’m laughing at those who want a legal permanent resident deported. It’s insane . They are mad because Guatemalans and Panamanians and Mexicans have illegally flooded the country and they want to take that frustration out on the children of people who came here LEGALLY and who are legal residents. It’s just ridiculous.

I don't want her deported. I am sorry that she doesn't have documents. I still think that she has it very good if there is no avenue in which she gets deported. Some things in life just suck man. I didn't want stage IV Lymphoma but it happened. Sounds like she can still live a great life in America among family and friends and can benefit from her permanent legal status. Everybody is missing something they wish they had. Be it money, good health, loving family, etc.. It sounds like hers is legal citizenship. It could be far worse.

yeah. Lots being hidden. I always love that response. You don't have anything to offer except you don't understand so it must be something nefarious.

She's a freaking HS Civics teacher, mother and wife that has lived here since she was two. Not a felon or a terrorist. Jesus.

Huh? You refuse to read up on why she didn't show for the single most important thing in her life. I didn't ask about now, or any other details of her life now.

When you refused, people got suspicious....imagine that

The liberal's paradise of Canada has merit based immigration and actually enforces their immigration laws. She'll probably have a tougher time getting into there

Had to bite here:
Illegal migrants get access to social services
Not sure how this is merit based or upholding our damn laws... and thanks for reminding me of this stupidity

What a true, unadulterated moron you are. Lol.

She was young...18...stupid like 18 year olds are...and she just thought she could do it next month, next year and boom jokes on her. And then laws tightened up surrounding documentation , and she really had none to provide through no fault of her own.

But if you want to believe she's running guns for a cartel or a secret Communist agent for the government of Vietnam, knock yourself right the frick out.

I hope it works out favorably for your cousin in law.

As has been mentioned earlier in this thread and others, this is just how effed up our immigration system has been for so long.

I know the situation was very different back then, and perhaps very fluid (record keeping), but there should have been a more meticulous and methodical way of accounting for people, and then, procedures in place for follow-up. i.e. - she gets a letter a long time ago stating that she can no longer do/get xyz until she follows through with what ever citizenship process that remains........so that it just doesn't fall on her shoulders. It's America's job to follow up on people like this.

Remember the comedian who said Heaven help you if you are so much as one day late returning your video to Blockbuster because they will track you down USA needs to do this, and should have been a LONG time ago.

We are probably the only first world country with such a broken system. My experience tells me you will get your arse chewed and then go through processing if you travel in western Europe without the proper papers/passport.

Best of luck to your cousin Pimp. Hope she makes the dream of being an American citizen.

This is another good example of the Kafkaesque nightmare of illogic and beaurocracy that is our immigration system.

She has a green card. She has a great attorney. She can't leave the country because she might not get back in (no US passport). She is a -get this-HS Civics teacher and a patriot. She somehow has fallen through the cracks.

Not renewing or moving to the next status on time once you'd already been granted some status basically wasn't a big deal before Trump, not sure it is now. If she's defying an order to leave or not renewing was an attempt to hide an arrest or some such it's much more serious, but other than that, she'll likely be a USC in a couple of years based on what I've read.

I sent off all my stuff the last day it was due, my work authorization almost lapsed before I got my 2 year green card because DHS took 4 months longer than average to complete. Still haven't had an interview past the CBP checkpoint and even then the guy was chill.

ETA: and fwiw, not sure what it cost in 2001, but this shite isn't cheap, I've spent 3k between my Visa, initial residence application, petition for conditions to be removed (2 year green card to 10 year) and naturalization application. Yeah, you have to have people vouch for your ability to pay and agree to be your guarantor but still, this stuff hits you in the pocket. Adding an attorney on top of that has to just be crazy expensive especially right now. Hope she gets to stay with no issues.

Riiiiiight. Not really, I think she probably had a good deal in some way, like attending college and getting aide as a foreign student...or something along those lines..probably enough to keep her from attending a citizenship hearing. That's all that was said. Then you spin it into cartel stuff, running guns, etc. Which further makes it evident you don't want to discuss the reality of what went on.

And now , 15 years after 9/11, ww are to believe this "accomplished" teacher and mother had no time to get docs straight?

Get real, you're lying and exposed. She was gaming the system and it's catching up to her. Doesn't mean she's a hardened criminal, but it is what is is

People that don't have to deal with it, don't realize how broken the US immigration system is.

One of the causes of illegal immigration is how badly screwed up our LEGAL immigration system is.
