The attorneys have to get paid for their hours worked and pay their employees. What did you expect, they work for free?

A way around this is for all the people involved to do all the work themselves and represent themselves in the class action lawsuit.

Only people that make money on class actions are the plaintiff attorneys.

Better way: the class action lawyers receive a percentage of the awards claimed. If you feel you were legitimately wronged, you claim your award and the lawyers get a cut which they rightfully earned. If you don't feel you were wronged you don't claim the award and the predatory lawyers don't profit from representing you without your consent.

I'll negotiate directly with the insurance or company first before going to a lawyer. Lawyers should only get payed on the net of which you get after med. bills and other cost.

You do realize this is done. In all class actions an opt out letter is sent to the last known address of the plaintiff. 99% of all people throw them away without responding. Can't blame the lawyer for that. Also I'm not a lawyer.

This is why most Americans do, and should, hate lawyers

They drive up the cost of everything, so that they can personally profit. And if they cant successfully do that, then they run for office, so they can personally profit

court documents show a big chunk of the money has already been eaten up by lawyers and court costs.

This is the sad part.

Y'all realize that class action lawsuits deter companies from bad behavior, don't you? Meaning it is good for the consumer in the grand scheme of things

I know it can feel frustrating to see a check so small, but at the same time the amount that you were damaged is likely not significant here.

It isn't like they took thousands or even hundreds of dollars from you.

I'm not really bothered by the amount lawyers are rewarded but that the lawyers had to contrive a faux injury that otherwise wouldn't have been made....

I mean, is a 54 cent overpayment really an injury to anyone especially if there was no intent of it....

I'll throw in one side of these stories. A lot of times the lawyers front a lot of the cost of class action suits.

You should see what happens when the outcome doesn't work out. One of the post Katrina cases wiped some lawyers out. The plaintiffs probably not nearly as fricked as those guys.

I got a $19 check from Lifelock laat summer.

I've never had a Lifelock account so I'm not really clear on how they harmed me.

It's not the attorneys fault companies can dick over the consumer that results in a billion dollar settlement.

Y'all make it sound like the attorneys filed the law suit went to lunch and then got a check for 200 million. Class actions aren't exactly a non contested divorce.

Funny how in a similar case, a major utility was allowed to refund directly to customers, rather than face a huge fine. No class action involved. I think I got like $400 in credit

Seems a better plan (except for my fellow attys, who bitched nonstop at the settlement)
