If I was around in the 60s/70s, I would have loved to visit Iran. The stories I hear from my Persian friends, it was amazing place.

Buh buh buh, Mr Michigan, Iran pre 79 was oppressive Mr. Michigan. Muh oppression! My human rights violations. Muh rural poverty.

Is this supposed to spark sentiments of "muh, they're not all bad"?

Let me explain pre 1979 Iran to you

The cities and “suburbs” wanted to be western. They lived western lives.

The backwards rural areas, consisting of farmers and goat herders, making up 55-60% of population, wanted to be a theocracy free of western influence.

The Shah knew that pure democracy meant the end of human rights and female freedom in the cities and suburbs. So he made the courageous decision to tell the rural Muslim theocrats to pound sand. That they would never have the right to vote away the freedoms and lifestyles of the cities.

So the rural Iranians revolted. And unfortunately it was a numbers game at that point

Iran would be a tremendous tourist destination if it wasn’t for the radical takeover.

They have amazing food and even great snow skiing.

It makes you wonder why they don’t want to be part of the modern world. They have so much to gain by doing so.

Glad to see some other Khruangbin fans here.

I'm thinking about seeing them in Santa Monica in September. Pretty good lineup at the Ocean Way Festival

They also have some of the most beautiful women in the world. It's a terrible shame what that religion does to hide their beauty.

Same thing for Beirut too.

These countries were in the process of modernizing. But, these elements which can only exist if they give the already idiot peasants a clear enemy (Israel and US) swept in.

Now do Lebanon. Beirut was considered equivalent to the French Riviera.

Very good and thank you for that video. People need to be reminded what happened to a population that was too "western" for the religious Shia zealots.

Yes, I do. So I also know Iran was still predominantly Muslim before 1979. I'll agree that their secular model before 1979 was undoubtedly better than the insane crap they have now. But I'm also not going to sit here and pretend that "they must not all be bad" because some of their grandparents enjoyed freedom nearly 50 years ago. This video fails to show what the muslims in the countryside were like at that time. My guess is every bit as bad as we see today.

My wife’s family lost a disgusting amount of their wealth fleeing the country during that revolution. The pictures look amazing. Hollywood used to vacation there. My mother in law had a diamond ring on in a picture and the diamond was the size of a marble.

Make Dizen Great Again

It was a great place to be when I was there in the mid 70s. It's even more modern now, just needs a regime change.
