What normally happens in such a situation?

When the incumbent party loses the majority, does the existing Speaker usually leave Congress?

Or does the existing Speaker usually accept it and stay on as minority leader?

This time, he floated the idea of returning to Louisiana and perhaps leaving the political arena altogether.

In the long run, it would be better for his soul. My perception of Johnson is that he's cleaner than most, but not completely clean. He spent too much time as Kevin McCarthy's right-hand man to be completely clean.

You'd better hope this isn't true. He's considerably smarter than you are.

They will if the elections are even remotely fair. The polling is so flawed and skewed for Democrats it’s a joke. This is necessary for the Dems to be close in any election. They can only cheat so much

I like your optimism and I sure as hell hope you’re correct.

We have a very important swing district (millions have been spent) out here and Mike came out to campaign last week. Trump, to my knowledge, hasn’t made much effort to help. This is a Hispanic (meaning Mexican) majority district. It’s currently red. This is where Trump should be helping out but he’s MIA. Meanwhile he keeps focusing on campaigning in the Southeast. Where Republican candidates should be safe. It’s concerning to me.

But what would the good God fearing people of NW Louisiana do when their Evangelical champion gives in to his crisis of faith?

Johnson didn't ask anyone to believe anything or do anything.

He spoke about his personal future and how that endeavor would be used for God's will and the best interest of the country. It was self deprecating in that he used the example of him starting a lawn business.

You flipped out.

You atheists are so quick to be offended that you didn't even understand the words Johnson was saying.

He wasn't saying "God wants you to vote for Republicans"

He was saying that if he fails and politics aren't in his future, he'll still attempt to do the best he can for God and Country.

When you can't allow people to have religion, THAT'S your religion.

I wonder if the voters in his district understand his intentions. He is behaving like a man with a severe case of "short man syndrome" would.
