Mike Johnson hints he could step down if Democrats win House

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson Thursday hinted he could quit Congress if Democrats win the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections.
With Democrats favored to retake control of the House, Johnson sounded very much undecided on whether he would stick around as GOP minority leader for the next two years.
“Heaven forbid, if we lose this majority or whatever, I don’t know what my next chapter of life is,” Johnson said in an interview with Fox News.
Johnson previously refused to address a hypothetical scenario of Republicans’ losing the midterms and projected confidence. This time, he floated the idea of returning to Louisiana and perhaps leaving the political arena altogether.
“If God moves on our hearts and says we should, you know, go back to my hometown of Shreveport and start a lawn business, I’ll do that with equal fervor,” he said. “I mean, I just want to be of my highest and best use to God and to my country.”

You honestly think the Republicans will still be in the majority in Congress after the midterm elections?
What causes you to believe that?
What causes you to believe that?

Because polls are meaningless. They’re manipulative propaganda and/or wildly inaccurate due to outdated systems.

I don’t know the guy personally, but saying that your actions are directed by and for God is what a real Christian would say.
You’re skepticism is overwrought.

Him and Thune both should quit if they lose their chamber.

Ignore politics for a while and go read some actual historians and philosophers.

Who should we buy? Which person in Washington is worth buying right now? Seems they are all falling short of serving the rest of us.

Ok, for sake of discussion, let's assume this is true.
That doesn't answer my question as to what is the basis for believing that Republicans will still be in the majority after the midterm elections.
The president’s party almost always loses ground in midterm House elections, as has happened in 20 of the past 22 midterm elections stretching back to 1938, and both exceptions reflected unusual circumstances. The 2002 midterms were decisively shaped by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, after which public approval of President George W. Bush soared and stood at 63% on Election Day of 2002. The other exception, the 1998 midterms, took place after Republicans tried but failed to impeach President Bill Clinton and remove him from office, even though 66% of the people approved of his job performance. Link.
I do understand that some people want the Republicans to remain the majority after the elections.
But what is the basis for actually believing that will happen?

seems more like what a Pharisee would say while all eyes are on him.
The Pharisee comparison doesn’t make sense. Unless you point out where he holds others to a standard that he doesn’t hold for himself, ie a hypocrite.
