Mexico Surpasses China as Leading Importer to U.S. for First Time in 20 Years

Import of Mexican goods was up 5% over the past year, while import of Chinese goods was down 20%.
How much of this can be attributed to Bidenomics? I assume the majority could be attributed to him mainly on account of his policies being in place now for 3 years.
Anyone on the supply side care to weigh-in on which policies are effectuating this monumental shift?

Are they just counting all the stuff the migrants bring with them as imports?

Mexico has always been the best answer to our Chinese manufacturing problem.

This is a great thing. Many folks on here wanted to see our dependence on Chinese trade reduced.

I'd be willing to be a lot of the Mexican increase is autos.
China is bleeding manufacturing to other countries like Vietnam and Cambodia.
Mexico being up isn't necessarily the reason China is down.

I think the Trump v China trade war had some to do with it. It scared many importers(my company too) to look into diversifying across a broader base. China's economy is in a rough patch as well I think.

funny responses as i was thinking the same thing about head counts and articles being included, but seriously there is no reason why Mexico shouldn't be top every year.
Mexico should always be 2nd to made in the USA. The difference in labor should be offset by logistical cost and risk dealing with China.

We ought to create an Americas free trade zone and eliminate all tariff/restrictions between every country in North and South America. Never understood why we don't do this.

100% support more outsourcing to Mexico rather than Eastern Asia. A strong and prosperous Mexico is great for the US.
