The fence was behind them.
Was this "fence" a fricking 40 ft wall with razor wire that has been electrified to a deadly level?
I need this information before I comment on the lame arse retort.

That is our Apache pilot who got out as a company grade
Is this supposed to be derogatory? If anything it increases my bona fides with regards to this subject.

Obviously not
Twenty years ago 3 Cavalry Scouts got captured by the Serbs on an international border while a war was going on, lets not act like this shite can't easily happen.
They were sitting in a vehicle, unless they were well concealed and in some sort of readiness for contact, they were going to be snatched in this case.

Even if there was, it's not much help if you're on the wrong side of it

I'm not familiar with that, so I don't know how these two incidents are similar/different

If you can't see 6 dudes coming up on you in a wide open area, you're obviously not doing your job.

We are in big trouble if we ever get into another major war.

Complacency kills. CBP probably also don't regularly if ever do training for that type of situation.
After my first combat tour we went to some unnamed location in Africa to do a standard movement/radio training mission on the next deployment (MEU).
They didn't tell us they had actors out ready to fire blanks at us.
I was one of the few " senior" junior enlisted and most of the others were on their first deployment.
I knew we also had blanks, but as soon as we took contact I dropped and returned fire, while the others just stood there sort of in shock.
My point is I had ample training and experience for the situation.
The work up/training for the MEU was more focused on other areas like boarding and unboarding aircraft, repelling/fast roping, setting perimeters etc. There wasnt a lot of immediate action/ return fire drills during the work up, so they guys who hadn't been there didn't know wtf to do.
Live and learn. Don't make the same mistake again.

Have you ever been deployed where you have had to man an OP for a long period of time? Have you ever conducted a raid on a static OP?
Posted on 4/20/19 at 1:23 pm to OleWarSkuleAlum
Looks like they could not even be sure who they were giving up to.
"The U.S. service members reported they did not see “any identifiable seals or symbols on the individual’s vehicle,” and “could not identify any patches or name tapes on the uniform except for the Mexican flags.”

No. I understand that fighting off complacency is tough, especially when you're deployed on your own border to basically fill a gap with no expectation of contact. It's not really an excuse to be disarmed by a foreign national military on your own soil, though.

This is absolutely disgraceful. Those U.S. Army Soldiers were armed and allowed Mexican nationals to not only approach them, but also disarm them. Their commander needs to be relieved.
It's also a fricking act of war, we need to put Mexico in its fricking place
