Low-cost measurement of facemask efficacy for filtering expelled droplets during speech

Folded bandanas and knitted masks performed poorly, and did not offer much protection. Neck fleeces or gaiters were the least effective. A fleece mask resulted in a higher number of respiratory droplets because the material seemed to break down larger droplets into smaller aerosol more easily carried away with air.
FWIW.

So basically anything other than N95 is not effective... maybe the surgical mask...
Got it...
Got it...

Physically fit 20 year old's have negligible risk from the Wuhan flu. Risks from drugs, alcohol, street violence, club violence, etc., are far higher.
And masks that inhibit free breathing are stupid and dangerous to players.

We can fully open but only with this:
Signed, Dr. Fauci

So 1 droplet if I speechify.
No droplet if I do not speechify.
Scientific conclusion: Do not talk to strangers.

Surgical mask is most logical and practical. Way better than nothing.

You know how many people are wearing masks in the range that really do not work? Most are not wearing N95 or surgical masks and even more are not even wearing what they are wearing properly...
the mask makes people feel better nothing more... Personally, I had rather those living in fear remain in their caves and let the rest of us get on with our lives without their bitching and moaning...

Everything in their test was better than nothing, except for the neck gaiter.
That's why medical professionals want us all wearing masks!!!

Who in the hell is wearing fleece? It’s hotter than hell outside!

That's what they call a gaiter.

I know quite a few who say otherwise, but you keep on doing you bro

Still, determining mask efficacy is a complex topic that is still an active field of research (see for example (9)), made even more complicated because the infection pathways for COVID-19 are not yet fully understood and are complicated by many factors such as the route of transmission, correct fit and usage of masks, and environmental variables.

That’s good data, but what threat do droplets pose, if any?
We have to establish that first
We have to establish that first

At least they acknowledge that.
We have no idea how it’s transmitted, but here’s our study.

Also, what were the interactions? Just nose breathing? Screaming/hollering/protesting? What were the physical conditions of the masked individuals (sick and snotty or healthy and dry)?

To be fair they didn't claim this was a study on virus transmission.
Some will read it as that though.
