So how are people getting infected?

Prolonged exposure in confined areas. Typically within homes/families.

And at peaceful protests.

So basically anything other than N95 is not effective... maybe the surgical mask...

Anecdotally, there are a lot more “symptomatic” people out and about right now than we’d like.

Other than normal allergies, haven't had any "symptoms", if it is as contagious as they claim I had to have caught it back in the spring since I practiced zero social distancing and was at work and out and about all the time (still am), but I know I always take tylenol about an hour before I go somewhere my temp will be taken "just in case". Not had a fever in the last 5 months that I'm aware of, but I'm probably not an outlier and those with typical "symptoms" that see it as the common cold cousin that it is are surely just medding up and pushing thru it like normal.

Did they study the efficacy of the masks during anything other than just basic speech? Did they test each with a cough or a sneeze? Those are going to have a much higher likelihood of involving particles that are carrying the disease.
