The document has been in place the entire time and look where we are currently.

Size of Federal government
Surveillance
Government schools / indoctrination
Income taxes
Property taxes
etc.

It's excellent but the 16th, 17th, and 19th amendments put some heavy damage on it.

That's pretty funny and an accurate retort for "it's never been implemented properly".

The modern culture has been conditioned to believe everything is a national problem.

This exacerbates the issue of the 2 political parties wanting to control the center of power which is DC

Pretty much everything past the 15th Amendment, with the possible exceptions of the 22nd, 24th and 25th, should be repealed.

The vast majority of those sworn to uphold the Constitution actually hate the Constitution.
They view it as a pesky document that stands in the way of the power they wish they had.

Our Founding Fathers foresight/vision is truly astounding.

Seems like a pyrrhic victory when due to income taxes and social programs I am effectively working for the Federal government until mid-March.

I mean Hamilton and to a lesser extent Madison believed in a strong central government to direct the national will. He saw where set ups like the Articles of Confederation giving too much deference to the states was overly problematic in terms of execution and effectiveness. In the end he compromised with Jefferson who really did not like the Constitution because it could strip the Southern States of power because they had less people.

The first 80 years of this country was an ideological battle between Hailton's vision and Jefferson's vision. Jefferson jumped out to an early lead. But, as the game was wearing on Hamiton's vision overtook and swamped Jefferson's vision, probably for the good

Without the 16th, the federal government's power would be heavily constrained. Not much is as effective in helping centralize power as mandating the citizenry pay you or be penalized.

That said, even that wouldn't be so bad if every Congress since the GFC hadn't continually turned its back on fiscal responsibility.

Not only that but modern Americans have an arse backwards view of governance and authority in general. Most of us believe that the basic nature of "rights" is that the government starts with all the rights (like a monarchy) and that the People have none, and that the role of the Constitution is to spell out the rights given to the People by government. It is actually supposed to be the exact opposite: All rights are supposed to originate and belong to the People and the Constitution is supposed to spell out only the specific rights that the People have allowed the government to have over them. Government is supposed to serve the People, not the other way around.

Think about it. Back in the day, if you wanted to build a barn on your property you just did it. The default position was to just do it. Nowadays it's the exact opposite - you instead assume you aren't "allowed" to build something on your own property and you first seek permission from government before you do anything. (and yes, yes, I understand there are practical differences between now and back then that make it less easy to just do something nowadays like water lines running through properties, etc., please don't be a filthy leftie and argue with my example, it's just a friggin' example).

It's a mindset that most people do not even realize that they have. Explains so many people's view of big daddy government having such control over their lives - especially lefties but even a lot of so-called "conservatives" have this slave mindset as well.
