And it should be reversed/rescinded. Because it is only in place when the dims aren't in power.

The hamstringing each side doesn't apply when they can ram through anything they want by doing away with it when they take back congress, but we can't get shite done when we have a slim margin.

The needs and wants of the many must always be provided over the needs and wants of the few.

If we get the save act passed the Democrats will never hold the majority again.

If we don't get the save act passed when they do get the majority they will nuke the filibuster.

looks like the "board" is right again

Are you saying you don’t believe Democrats, who just today have made it clear they want to abolish the Senate all together, won’t nuke the filibuster the instant they have the numbers to do so?

I don't know. I just get tired of this narrative that everything is an immediate emergency in order to justify discarding something as established as the filibuster and that the world ends when Dems get power. And, yes, both sides do this.

I’m not for eliminating the filibuster.

But I am for eliminating the virtual filibuster.

Eliminating it for SAVE Act would likely lead to retaliation when Democrats regain the majority (on issues like voting rights, guns, climate, etc.).

WHY do you not realize and believe that the Democrats will immediately eliminate the filibuster just as soon as they regain the Senate???

to avoid turning the Senate into a pure majoritarian body like the House.

The constitution set it up to be a pure majoritarian body though. Nowhere is a filibuster mentioned

The point of filibuster is to allow open debate so opposition can make a final case to change votes. They aren’t doing this, they’re just making it where you have to get 60 votes to pass anything which will never happen and they aren’t doing any work or debate. It’s bullshite

Go back to a talking filibuster only

It COULD have dire consequences, of it COULD have promising consequences. No one can tell the future. Living in fear of possibly being a repressed minority is no way to go through life.

Now do the talking filibuster…

I agree with you that eliminating the filibuster is not a smart move, but make democrats work for it. Thune said he could enact the talking filibuster because they had too much other work to do…well, what have they accomplished? Nothing.

That is a strawman.

We do not currently have a filibuster. We have a make-believe symbolic unlimited pretend version. An actual filibuster is limited and takes real effort to maintain.

What is being done now is quite different. There is no physical toll. There is no embarrassment of having to read the phonebook out loud from the US Senate floor in order to waste time on national TV.

So we don't need to repeal the filibuster. We simply need to bring back the actual filibuster.

Would you bet your life that the Dems won't do away with it when they get the majority again.

This type of thinking is why the republicans are weak and consistently get steam rolled by Democrats. This thinking is only an excuse to be weak. The Democrats play dirty and play for keeps. You better believe if they get power again they will do everything they have said they will do, and this country is DONE!

Thank you. The "Gentleman's Filibuster" is a disaster.

Plus, John Kennedy would kill it on C-Span in a real filibuster.
