They don’t want people saving, they want that money “put to work” instead.

Thinking of your financial security is apparently evil when it means money not propping up their shite economy.

Yep it basically kills retirement savings I mean sure you will still tried to save but it will just be savings Ultimately the tax penalty keeps a lot of people out of their 401k. Hard to argue it won't destroy saving levels further

It’ll be sold as a way to be “equitable” to the poor who don’t have much in the way of 401ks (and that includes lots of middle class) That’s where the new “retirement” refundable tax credit for “everyone” (under a certain income level) comes into play.

I expect they are going to reduce the tax exemption to fund free tuition and universal healthcare. On top of that they will either tax the withdrawals from investment accounts at a higher rate OR reduce your Social Security if you are also taking 401k withdrawals.

They will say those that are investing on 401k have unfairly benefitted from an unfair advantage that those who could not afford college are not able to participate in.

Q says hi!

FWIW, if you have money Kamala wants it (Joe has no clue). He is the equivalent of the governor in Blazing Saddles.

Cool, so the government already takes 30% of my income, and they are going to come after the 8% I set aside for retirement.

Not happening. It will happen one day but we need to go through a major fiscal crisis before someone risks floating the idea.

I don’t think it will in the immediate future, but the idea has been floating around leftist circles for a while now.

Up till now they haven’t been stupid enough to really start pushing it.

Now, they have all the seats of power, so if you object or resist, they have a label for you.
