Explain how you’ll stop it and I’ll explain how it will happen. (I don’t think it happens in the near-term.)

Not happening. It will happen one day but we need to go through a major fiscal crisis before someone risks floating the idea.

These retards are already taking about a wealth tax. You think that's not applied to a 401k account?

The most common thought is they’ll tax 401k’s over a certain amount, probably to bail out state pension programs.

Joe Biden gonna change retirement

He gonna donaway with tax defferals on retirements, introduce a new tax credit, and still tax you when you withdraw the money.

quote:

The details of his retirement plan are ambiguous but appear to involve taxing income twice by only including after-tax contributions in retirement accounts, which are again taxed as income when withdrawn. Biden plans to offset this double taxation with a tax credit that would make Americans more dependent on the government and prevent retirees from realizing the benefits of a lifetime of compounded interest on their pretax retirement account income.

Yeah, government never finds a way to take more of what you've earned.

I have a suspicion that the OP doesn't even have a 401k or even a savings account for that matter

Look at your paycheck

Look how much comes out for taxes (Medicare, social security. Federal. State.)

Americans are some of the dumbest fricks on this planet.

They could raise taxes on dividends.
Apply a tax or government fee/surcharge on every contribution.

You doubt the lefts desire to tax the frick out of the private citizens?

if they touch Roth accounts that’s when I’m bailing on this nation. I forfeited the ability to get compounded growth on pre-tax income for the ability to get Uncle Sam out of my life.

If they renege on that agreement, I won’t trust any part of this federal government with another nickel of mine.

Yep it basically kills retirement savings

I mean sure you will still tried to save but it will just be savings

Ultimately the tax penalty keeps a lot of people out of their 401k. Hard to argue it won't destroy saving levels further

Bad bet. Nothing preventing any of this from changing. And they’ll take their pound of flesh before you are allowed to leave.
