There's just no way a lay jury is going to keep track of all those technical arguments.

Funny anecdote from the courtroom this morning as the Judge Ellis was about to send the jury off to deliberate - Judge calls out: "Mr. Trump, you're here for what??" Journalists and lawyers were startled--almost aghast. But judge was recognizing an EDVA prosecutor: Jim Trump.

Are you suggesting that will work for or against him?

Against. I think they focus on the obvious tax return issue and implicate everything else.

CNN has an article out sitting on thier hands waiting for the jury to announce a verdict.

They want so badly for Manafort to go to prison; yet fail to realize that Manafort, Gates and Podesta are business partners doing the same so called crimes. All of DC's lobbyists need locked up.

In this trial? 70-30. Unfortunately, he has another trial coming up in a month or so. That one is to be tried under auspices of the judge who already de facto sentenced Manafort to solitary.

I heard recently Mueller didnt charge Manafort with all they had. They purposely held back to file in DC Federal Court as a backup, in case of a hung jury or acquittal.

As a former practicing attorney who lived in DC just long enough to not trust almost anyone, this possible course of action you described is highly unethical, an abuse of power and just a pure "shitshow". If the Special Counsel actually does this, the backlash could be ugly. Also, if Gates' attorney did his job in the Plea Agreement, the power offer his testimony should be gone or severally limited. Gates took the deal and testified so his obligation is complete. Not his fault if a Jury doesn't convict.

I see an IRS Audit in the future, no matter the verdict, and it will be deep and painful.

How much trouble would Manaforts lawyers have been in had they directly attacked the credibility of Mueller himself?

I.e. that the only reason Manafort was charged here is to give credence to the conspiracy to attack Trump. That in essence this is a political trial with political motives to further a political cause?

I'm not saying you're wrong, I would just suggest that seriously overcomplicating things can often go either way with a jury.

He's still got the second Manafort trial and the terms of his deal were to testify if needed at any other trials the government brings in which he's offered information (he's also given info on the election conspiracy side of the investigation).

I’ve made this statement before and I believe it to be true, if all the Swamp Dwellers were scrutinized like Trump and his baws are being scrutinized over 70% would face charges.

burden of proof requirement in this case is "Beyond any reasonable doubt", and a guilty verdict has to unanimous. He's probably getting off on this round

Best case scenario, Manafort avoids criminal convictions and gets slapped with a zillion dollar tax bill. He's financially fricked

Is this true or false? Has Manafort done anything any differently than any other DC lobbyist in your opinion?

If Podesta skates will you see the bias or just lie and say he had better lawyers?

They do when they do it year after year.

He didn’t leave boxes unchecked. He checked them off as “NO”. That’s a problem.

I will reserve further comment until I see the full Plea Agreement, if that is even possible. What you describe could lead to serious unattended consequences for the Client (Gates). Perjury traps, no time barriers on testifying, open inquiries on "offered information." If it is as you say, Gate's attorney should have done better, but Gates may just be such a huge criminal that he was facing an effective life term. If that is the case, he would say anything to get out of the trap and his proffers are heavily tainted (which is always the risk with plea deals).

Who cares if he is found guilty?

He is scum and should go to prison. Everyone talks about the swamp and he is one of the worst in it.

It doesn’t matter if he is tied to Trump or not he is a criminal.

So you agree there’s a swamp. Baby steps.
