I hope it goes well. If it does the next trick will be to turn water into wine.

Mamdani excited first city owned grocery. 30 million dollar project
So the he lied about a budget crisis and just used it as an excuse to raise taxes? Color me SHOCKED.
I'm loving how fast this coming train wreck is accelerating towards derailment.

Usually 3-5 percent is the margin
These frickers next step will be to force suppliers to drop prices for the government store or lose the ability to supply anyone in the city

All this hoopla and the taxpayer funded store is not even open and may not ever open.
Normally you would take the victory lap once the store is open and successful.
Likely that will not happen so Mambamby decided to celebrate now?

$30 million to open the store.
I'll say $5-$7 million losses the first year, and more each year thereafter.
With communists, you get communism and eventually he will run out of rich people to shake down. When that happens, the middle class ain't gonna like Mamdummy's next moves.

Marxists love to run a grocery store!
It's just that simple for them.

Margins are nowhere near 20% in grocery prices, 3-4%

Trump Jr should open one down the street from this in 30 days for less than 3 million. Of course, the zoning department would never issue a permit to him. Would have to use a shell company.

Just like every other democrat project, the money will disappear and nothing will get built. If anything they'll siez3 someones existing store and slap a new label on it.

Exactly
The city will ultimately hold distributors hostage.
The union employees will be robbing the place blind

I wonder how much it costs for an established chain to open a store in the New York metro area?
They would have to do a cost analysis to see if it was plausible. There is a reason there are no stores in the area

First thing they will do is blame grocers for undercutting the city owned store.
Then demand laws to level the playing field.

I wonder if he seriously thinks that somehow this attempt at socialism will be successful?

This will be the worlds first grocery store that managed to lose a billion dollars in one location.
