70% - wow. There are two words in the article that I think are responsible for most of their problems. See if you can find them. They kinda jumped out at me.

quote:

Millennials often define being an adult as being financially independent Opens a New Window. t, but a new survey finds the majority of young people still depend on their parents for money.

A new Merrill Lynch/Age Wave survey given exclusively to USA TODAY found 70 percent of adults ages 18 to 34 received financial support from their parents within the last year, with almost three in five millennials saying they couldn’t afford their lifestyles without the support.

Barron's Senior Editor Jack Hough believes these numbers are a direct result of what millennials face in terms of the rising cost of college and are making a rational decision by living together in bigger households.

"College Opens a New Window. is not sustainable as a cost on society right now. I think, if anything, the millennial generation will figure out a way to fix that in future years," Hough told FOX Business’ Neil Cavuto on "Cavuto: Coast-to-Coast" on Friday.

neighbors kid is about 30 and still lives at home. I doubt he'll be gone before 40.

Hail nailed it. What I never seem to hear about the millennial financial problems - no one ever surveys and reports millennials who don't go to college. There are plenty of trade jobs, factory jobs, etc. out there that pay damn good money yet none of those people seem to be "interviewed". It's like they don't exist. Maybe they are the 30% who don't rely on dear mom and dad.

I hire students. The bigger the campus/school, the more worthless the students are. They are not ready for a real job with real pay, even without committing long-term. Most of them are visibly soft, both physically and mentally. Just soft... And white kids are by far the softest.

They would rather take out student loans and take classes in the summer and work at subway to stay local, even with travel and housing covered while they work for 3-4 months.

When I was in school, this shite was a no-brainer. We have raised a generation of people who have reached adult age with very little readiness to be adults... Even temporarily.

Well said. I moved out at 20. Had me a job that paid enough to where I could afford a house trailer. The reason for the trailer and not an apartment is because my job relocated me several times in my first ten years of employment. At least I was smart enough to know that there was no equity at all in living in an apt. I was thirty-three before I ever bought my first house. I still live in it and it has been paid off for the last ten years and I'm pretty well off financially more than most. Not rich by a longshot but I don't struggle. Been retired for seven years and worked for the same company for 42 years.

I guess I'm saying I didn't put myself in debt trying to keep up with other's lifestyles. There was a lot of crap I wanted but realized I didn't actually need.

Kids I know aren't like that. I believe the stereotypical millennials are congregated on the coasts and in big cities.

I do believe the kids I know are going to have to deal with a lot of shitheads their entire lives.

My wife’s brother (a liberal) is like that. He just keeps going to school instead of finding an actual job. My wife’s parents are loaded so they just keep on supporting him. His dad even got him a super nice job but he quit within months because he was “bored”. Pathetic

This isn't the norm anymore. Companies don't give a crap about loyalty. They would rather you work there a few years, leave to go somewhere else for a while, then hire you back at a higher level. It's odd to me to not care about retaining talent.

I couldn't even afford a lifestyle out of college. Lifestyle was created! These young people don't create, they consume.

Good for them! They must have parents who love them very much, even when the youngster shouts at them for being White Racist Pigs!

Doesn't surprise me. shite, most people I know are still having to support adult children in some way because they don't have their shite together.
