Funny to watch you put on your sweater vest and play the upright conservative because you think it will help you win an e-argument.
I've been a capitalist and posted regularly on this board promoting capitalism for like 19.5 years, at this point. How did you miss that?

I sometimes wonder why you are universally loathes on here
That's a recent development once this board went way left economically and I kept my principles and kept supporting capitalism.

You used generic words without specifics. I gave you the opportunity to be specific with your plan, and how we get there. Still waiting.

The price increase from those tariffs will hurt GDP as much, if not more, than the value we gain from the tariff taxation. That's the problem.
Insofar as any tax theoretically slows the economy, a tariff which can be mitigated in various ways, is actually less decelerating than other options.

You think homes or cars are easier to afford today than decades ago?
That fact is home ownership is up versus fifty years ago and cars per capita is also up over the same time-frame. So, yeah - homes and cars are more easily afforded today than decades ago.

The details of which we are currently debating in this thread and the board in general. Please try and pay attention.

Stigmatized? Trade jobs are all the rage right now as are 2 yr degrees. Electricians, HVAC and Welders are scooped up as fast as the programs can push them out and accredit them. My HVAC guy who works with two other full time types, just charged me 300.00 for a thermostat problem that probably cost him about $30 in materials and an hour or so of work....and he's busy. So those jobs are there and guys like me will pay the cost because if you need their services....you need them and you'll pay. Hell. Entry level machinists are getting 25/ hr .

Increased costs won't hurt GDP?

I am giving you the opportunity to articulate the strategy, specifically, and the plan.

Yes, for a certain segment of the population it is all the rage. But there is much larger segment where it is stigmatized. Not only that we have bred generations of people wholly unequipped to work these professions. Hence the demand.

We're talking about former factory workers. There is no stigma for this class of worker. Trade jobs are a higher class of jobs, actually.

I don’t need your “opportunity”. You haven’t earned the intellectual integrity for me to waste my time .

w/o a change of direction we're approaching fiscal dependence. FD will KILL anyone on salary or (worse yet) anyone on fixed income. As that outcome is still avoidable

That’s where we disagree. It’s already too late.

You have got to already possess a skill to get your foot in the door in manufacturing today. Unskilled workers are going to have a tough row to hoe even if new plants are built on every street corner, because nobody is going to take the time to train anyone on the job. That’s the difference between then and now. A strong back and a work ethic aren’t enough. It’s critical that the stigma against tech training, that it’s somehow lesser or inferior to college, go away.

So a factory worker can just go be an electrician
You’re contempt for the common person is palpable.

Why do you think they can't?

You are the one who just implied factory workers are too stupid to be electricians, while I'm arguing they have jobs ready to transition into (implying they're fully capable)
