Any idea how much money is available in FEMA Public Assistance grants?

You totally avoided my question. Try to focus really hard.
You said that if FEMA did not exist, then small towns in La. would have a tougher time than New Orleans. Why? And don't tell me about how FEMA helps them more. FEMA does not exist in the hypothetical you claim.
Or, perhaps you'd like a revision to: "FEMA is best for La. but my point about New Orleans being better off was kinda stupid."

FEMA focuses much more of their efforts on government and industry functions rather than residential. I don’t think it matters if it’s them or the state—both will spend money poorly. At least there’s the opportunity to hold people accountable at the state level.

No state is dumbass, which is why almost all of them have interstate compacts for disaster assistance.

Louisiana isn't capable of handling a random Tuesday on its own......at least not competently.

Go read what FEMA Flood 2.0 is and how fricking stupid it is and get back to us. No difference in flood risks in their determinations between: if levees (locally built to army corps specs) exist or not, slab or raised to elevation.

2.0 needs to die in a fire. Nothing but empty promises and complete lack of intelligence and integrity.

That's the problem. The Feds have created a bureaucracy that cost 50 cents for every dollar the States are awarded. Throw out the bullshite paperwork and just send the money straight to the States.

You can’t redirect money to Jeff Laundry. He will then redirect it to his corporate buddy’s .

Exactly!

Covid money is a PRIME example.

FEMA PA funds gave schools in Louisiana billions of dollars to safeguard the children from Covid related indoor air contaminants. Only ONE PARISH used it's Covid money to do so, St. Tammany.

The rest used the money to solve budget problems and give teachers pay raises. That doesn't help make the schools safer, one bit.

The same abuse would happen after a hurricane. Each parish, town, city etc. would get an opinion from it's attorney that they could spend their 'money" the way they wanted to.

It's the reason New Orleans didn't replace the pumps after Katrina and continues to repair 100 year old pumps, while hiring employees and paying them overtime to fix broken crap.

Louisiana is corrupt. Not just New Orleans. Then again, if you want to see the same companies getting all the state contracts simply because they are approved and have powerful friends, go ahead....give the hogs more slop to eat in Baton Rouge. Then, go try to find them for answers.

My mother’s good friend’s son was a trucker during Katrina. He had a refrigeration truck and got a contract with FEMA to haul ice to N.O.He got there ,they sent him back somewhere in Mississippi.Next day got sent back to N.O.,again sent back to Mississippi. This went on for a week,7 round trips with a load of ice.
He made a boatload of money living in his truck for a week hauling ice back and forth.

We must get rid of FEMA. Entities and people can purchase insurance for anything they wish to protect. States can have their very own funding mechanisms, including "emergency" bonds, for times of disaster. By keeping it local, better decisions are made due to local accountability.

FEMA is just a mechanism for liberal governors to use to cover their disastrous policy decisions. These DC handouts must stop.

I remember when Barber turned down federal aid after Katrina. He caught a frick ton of flak but knew he didn’t want Mississippi to be under the thumb of the feds. The MS GC ended up so much better post-Katrina.

LINK . Good article on the screw ups by blanco and Ray negin. If you have bad local leaders it will be a disaster. Just like Bush and Newsom in Cali. There careers should be over.

I can attest to most of this. I work in heavy construction and I have contracts in many of the small towns between BR and New Orleans . I won't name them because I may be stabbed while I am asleep. And there are spies in theses small towns (think karens and other useful idiots).

What I will tell you there are some big hungry hogs in these small towns. The Red Cross should be abolished and RICO ed . FEMA is in the same boat.

Your local community is your best bet.

The People are. They've done it before and will do it again. It's government, whether Federal or State, within which you should not place your trust. You're on your own, so know your neighbors and build a relationship with them so you can rely on each other during tough times.

We just recently saw this play out in FL, GA, SC, ETN and WNC after the hurricanes. People take care of one another when the government inevitably fails to do so.

LA should be able to handle hurricanes.....we live on the coast, and we know the consequences! Just like every other coastal state.....
Mother Nature is not kind sometimes, we need to deal with it and take care of ourselves.
