Its because the LDH is handling this very liberally

We have patients hospitalized regardless of having covid, but if they have it is counted in the numbers

We are also counting deaths regardless of Cause of death as a covid death if they are positive

66.1% of deaths are occurring in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes

Oh well good thing we shut the whole state down then instead of just quarantining those two parishes early on.

It reads to me like stringent test criteria. In other areas, the positives/test ratio is below 10%

I think some of the big increase in cases today is just reporting lag from this weekend.

No they aren't. There were drive thru testing areas that saw little traffic.

Are they hospitalizing some that could be at home? I have no idea just posing the question.

Good question. Could be including in "hospitalization" statistic those who were technically admitted through say emergency room, but then rather quickly discharged with strict instructions.

I’m thinking some are in there for observation.

Yeah I'm a little skeptical of what goes into the hospitalization numbers. Because what it appears to the public on its face is every one of those in that number are in an intensive care situation. Just gut feeling though, nothing to base that suspicion on.

quote:According to DHH there were between 14,000-15,000 cases of flu in LA in 2019 resulting in 1550 reported deaths...that's a death rate of between 10.2% to 11.1%...more than 3 times higher rate of deaths than from COVID-19. Makes me wonder "What's It A I hear you. I said the same thing. Flu kills more each year, but we did not shut business down like this.

So why doesn't the Flu create the kind of tidal wave that overwhelms the availability of Ventilators? Isn't CV far more contagious than Flu? Does the normal Flu require Vents to the degree that CV does? If there were no vaccines, like with CV...what would the Flu numbers be?

For some reason, the Powers that Be are spooked...and we'll likely know in the next couple of weeks whether their fears and extreme actions were warranted.

Well we haven’t actually seen vents be overwhelmed. We keep hearing they will be but they haven’t. So here is a good idea, stop crying wolf assholes. I get it’s in their best interest to scare the shite out of people so they bend to their will but the people who think rationally will say you said the same shite last week and the week before.

I don’t think so. Beds are needed for serious cases. More likely they are turning people away.
