Dropped off my rental car at night, hotel i was at for the night was a block and a half from the rental place, so I figured I'll walk it. I've never been so scared in my life. There was a car sitting on the side of the road running, just sitting there. I ran the rest of the block to the hotel.

We are talking LA and he’s talking about Monterey. He’s trying to compare the two.

He’s talking about a state with the most habitable climate and natural aesthetics that almost every other state would kill for, and with that abundance of natural gifts, has managed to turn parts of that into a 3rd world shithole. LA county is a 3rd world shithole for the most part. Drive a hour south San Diego is moving that way as well. It’ll soon bleed into LaJolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, etc… because that what all viruses do. Luckily Sonoma Co. is protected by a giant bridge from the shithole that is SanFran.

Oakland is a 3rd world shithole. To defend the trajectory of Cali as anything but a sinking ship is willful ignorance at best,

Pump the brakes kid. Grand Isle doesn’t hold a candle to La Jolla. You’re standing in the wrong spot to make such a comparison. Wander the coast awhile before you draw your conclusions. But the rest of your analysis is likely accurate.

I went there last year for the first time and had the same impression. The downtown area is especially horrible with seemingly no redemption

South of LA is awesome though. San Diego county is great.

Yeah other than the white sand there is very little coastline more beautiful than driving PCH on one of the 300 days a year it’s 70’s and sunny in Cali.
If CA had TN political and economic climate I would be there tomorrow.

I don’t like Cali politics as much as the next guy, but I spent Labor Day weekend driving through the hills on I8 into San Diego - then a few days in south LA area (Huntington Beach Santa Ana).

It’s some of the prettiest country I’ve seen - and the people I met were nothing but kind.

Guess you missed Sunset, Manhattan Beach, Laguna, Malibu, Newport, La Jolla and basically every other awesome place there in SoCal.

They are nice but La Jolla is in San Diego, Newport and Laguna are in Orange County not LA.
Orange County is known for being more “conservative” compared to other parts of California. San Diego used to be but that’s changed over the last 20 years. It still better than LA.

They key is to live in the hills so you have a good vantage point for watching these peasants in squalor.

While Los Angeles is not my favorite city in the world, or even California for that matter, I wouldn’t call it a shithole. It’s a lot nicer than my hometown of Baton Rouge.

Try 40 years ago.

My Dad retired from the Air Force, he took a job with the up and coming Motel 6. He was responsible for refurbishing existing and newly purchased property.Imigration was making raids 40 years ago. I would visit my Dad and his wife, then watch as all the staff left because of a raid. Contractors and housekeeping.

Always said the wall is built in the wrong place.

I can concur. I brought my son to the Braves season openers against San Diego and then the Dodgers back in April. We stayed downtown in both cities.

San Diego was beautiful. It was clean, the people were friendly, the public transportation was great, Seafood World was awesome, we felt safe walking around after dark. I could live in San Diego or at least visit again. Then we took the AmTrak to LA...

It was like night and day compared to SD. Every square inch of downtown LA was covered in graffiti or socialist propaganda posters. Filth everywhere. I'm talking used needles, feces, piss, trash. It was absolutely disgusting. Worst city I ever been to.

Told my boy we will go back only one more time to see the Braves at Angels one day, but we're not leaving Anaheim the entire trip.

Well, coming from Puerto Rico, you should know about shitholes.

You forgot the part where every house and neighborhood reeks of old outdated architecture. It’s like they gave up designing and building homes in the early 70’s.

You can take the So Cal part out because L.A. is indeed a shithole, but you can find a myriad of beaches in So Cal that are very nice.

If your first inclination was to go to the closest beach next to the airport is laughable. Other reasons to hate on California, and those things ruin the part that Cali has one of the most diverse topographies, and beautiful to boot. Weather is damn near perfect.

Under current political and social conditions I could never live there again.
