Yep. Gotta have industry, can’t just have an economy be 100% “finance”, which is largely just moving money back and forth for no reason
I was telling people 30 years ago when the US began offshoring its industrial/manufacturing base that our nation's sovereignty will become an issue....and here we are in 2025 fighting tooth and nail to resurrect the industrial/manufacturing sector of the US economy.

Looks like we’re charging 50% of their tariffs. If a country drops their rate, I suspect we drop accordingly. At the end of the day he may allow them to keep something. This is right out of Art of the Deal. Ask for the moon, at the end of the day still come out better than when we started. I’m good with it.

I've never seen a market sell off quite like this

Total overreaction. This allows the tariffs to come down, but allows other countries to keep some, which lets them save face at home.

Trump just nailed it, pissed of the Wall Street and the US Corporatists when he said, if tariffs were bad for a nation's economy there would be no nation's using tariffs, instead every nation the US has trade agreements with is using protective tariffs.
Pretty much.
I like the US economy in a truly unfettered global economy. I think there is still a spirit in the US if a blue collar American works hard for their employer they will be rewarded for their contribution and paid accordingly....it's good for both parties.

I don't have a problem with this at all. My problem is with his non-reciprocal tariffs.

Trump is going through this in laymans terms line by line.
We have the unions there.
So tell me how these people can side with one of the most horrid democrats-Kaine.
Imagine siding with Kaine...
What is Rand Paul thinking? They are gunning their own party leader the President-- in negotiations.

Sen. Mitch McConnell privately indicated to Sen. Tim Kaine he would back the Virginia Democrat’s resolution to undo President Donald Trump’s Canada tariffs.
Kaine told reporters Wednesday that the former GOP leader told him the day before that he would back Kaine’s resolution, which will get a vote on the Senate floor Wednesday evening. A spokesperson confirmed Kaine’s remarks.
McConnell’s support is not necessarily a surprise: He’s been vocal in his warnings about Trump’s tariffs, including in a recent op-ed in The Courier-Journal. But it’s the latest instance of McConnell bucking the administration since leaving his leadership position, and McConnell’s support means Kaine’s resolution will likely have the votes it needs to advance in the Senate.
In addition to McConnell, GOP Sens. Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Rand Paul are expected to vote for the measure, which would end the national emergency Trump declared earlier this year to justify his new plan to slap 25 percent tariffs on Canadian imports.
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Kaine said other Republicans are also reaching out to him to get information on the resolution, indicating the number of GOP supporters may grow.

That’s good. We need to keep foreign automakers making cars here which supports American jobs.
We also need companies like Ford to stop building cars in Mexico.

I thought Vietnam was getting rid of all their tarrifs?

It's hard to tell what these numbers are based on. He just said, for example, that tariffs on incoming Chinese goods are based on currency manipulation and "other trade barriers", not necessarily tariffs. And then there's the blanket 10% for every country not on the big board. I assume the tariff situation / trade barriers are not the same in the other 180+ countries?
