The lesson is that Republican voters absolutely detest the idea of smaller government.
No, the lesson is that a slight majority of GOP voters will bend their political views to whatever Donald Trump says.
He controls the GOP and the issues are secondary to that.
Now that doesn’t mean he still controls a winning majority of voters in a general or national election, that remains to be seen.
But I believe it’s crystal clear he can sway a primary particularly when he has the support of the big money donors behind him.

Massie lost because he always opposed good legislation because it wasn't perfect.
And the difference between perfect and good placed him out of office.
This is the most astute post regarding the whole situation I think anyone will ever see.
It became about his personal agenda more than that of his constituency. And I don't know how much Gallrein will improve on that if any, but the well was poisoned on Massie and his constituents made it clear.
Now, can we move on? 19 threads on the first page about this one piece of (now) history is giving him more power than any one politician deserves. He's been cast into the dustbin of history, onward and upward

Bingo!
I remember a time when congress-critters running for re-election would come home and brag about how much money they brought back to their districts. Government contracts/funding meant money in working peoples pockets.
Maybe they should get back to doing that.
"Hey. I brought $20 million in matching funds for public infrastructure this year.".
To the average working person that sounds a lot better than "Hey. I managed to get some Epstein files released this year.".
It's really not rocket science.

MAGA has even fewer policy positions now that they've given up on small government
The size of the government is still shrinking. It’s still under a hiring freeze, 12 percent reduction in force over a year and a half. More government workers are leaving/retiring than are being hired. Seems to me they are just letting attrition do the dirty work.

That’s been the case for over 25 years.
Nothing new.

There is a middle ground. I believe most people are content to have their representatives vote as they please on the vast majority of mundane bullshite that occurs day to day. They are likely not OK with their representative voting contrary to their wishes on big ticket items that have overwhelming support from those constituents.
You can likely get away with this a time or two, but it will eventually bite you in the arse.
Representatives and senators also have a responsibility to follow the constitution and do what is best for America. If that goes against what their constituents want, that is a problem with the constituents.

quote:According to whom? This is nothing more than sophistry to be used to do as they please. Two representatives can take two diametrically opposed positions while both claim their position is "what is best for America." As I said previously, they may get away with it a time or two, but eventually they will be held accountable.
and do what is best for America.

No it's not. He lost because he is constantly in the news as an obstructionist, whether it is true or not
The guy has a reputation for voting against the party without any solutions
The main issue is that the guy is funded by leftist organizations and supported by Democrats
