I don't think it's acceptable period. By that, I don't mean people should get fired, rather than society should go "that's sad/dumb/fricked up" anytime someone compares someone else to an ape as an insult.
I'd be surprised if RB didn't know she was black (I think a lot of people are playing up ignorance on this topic), but I also doubt she was truly intending to make a racial barb. Which matters in a bubble, I guess. In reality, when it's obvious what your plight will be if you "go there," I don't really care about the nuances of her motivation.

Liberals also keep avoiding my request for links to their outrage when Keith olbermann got hired by Disney again last week after having said hundreds of things worse than Roseanne.
