re: Layoffs in January were the most to start a year since 2009.

ve never know a BOD or CEO that had a goal “employing as many people as possible”. Layoffs or hires are not metrics for CEO performance.
Businesses don’t exist to “give” people jobs. Thats not their purpose.
Where did I state that was a BOD or CEO's goal. Their goal is maximizing stock price through profits. I was simply pointing out that while companies are laying off thousands, CEOs are still receiving record compensation, which is increasing the wage gap and continuing to squeeze the middle class.

Otherwise, the relationship isn’t notable, meaningful, nor significant.

Again, you are assuming I am thinking something I am not.
Facts:
Layoffs are up
CEO compensation is up
Both can be true. There can be a correlation; there might not be a correlation.

Do they exist to "give" CEO's record salaries? Is that their purpose?

I COMPLETLY agree, my dear Cubbies. My question-as I've been screaming about this for two years as it's become increasingly worse, and I hear hard luck story after hard luck story from my clients, is -why aren't we talking about it more? We talk about all this phony cultural bullshite-but what about the middle class continuing to get CRUSHED.

Businesses can do whatever they want to do with their money. If they choose to give CEOs exhorbitant salaries/bonuses at the expense of retaining talented and hard working individuals or innovating process' or equipment, then the business will eventually get passed by competitors and either cease to exist or pivot. You can't force businesses to do anything. They are there solely to make a profit. By doing this efficiently and making a solid product/service, they are serving the common good but that is not their purpose. It's a byproduct.

Both can be true. There can be a correlation; there might not be a correlation.

quote:No. But without implying that high-CEO salaries hurt company’s performance, CEO pay is largely irrelevant. And that’s if we ignore that most CEO TC is tied to stock performance, not employee payroll.

Probably because no one can profit from these conversations.

Why is that always the MAGA response? Even if Kamala would have been worse, that doesn’t mean you should be happy with the state of the economy. Criticizing the current president’s performance isn’t an endorsement of the opponent’s proposals.

Oh looky here. The panicking tariff goobers now have something else to Sky-Scream about!

It seems impossible now.

And because our political class has no real interest in resolving these issues on behalf of the middle class.

The fricking economy punched a 5.4% increase in GDP last month WITH the govt shutdown.
Real wages are outpacing inflation for 11 months straight. You think companies just pay more when there are all these able bodied people who could replace workers?
We have 2.5 million illegals, many with SS#, so they were being counted in the bls numbers, who have left the job and returned home. What the fck do we think all these illegals were doing with the ss#s.
Its befuddling no one accounts for the illegals in the job numbers when they are lost.

When are we getting those Tariff Refund Checks ?
They sure will come in handy now that everyone is losing their job & the markets are crashing.

There's this thing call AI. You might want to look into it and the effect it has been predicted, for years, to have on job losses once it became prominent. This was always going to happen no matter how good or bad the economy is.
It's going to get worse.
It's going to get worse.

So four previous years of disaster that set this country back much more than that... was supposed to be completely fixed in the first year of Trump's four-year term?

Funny enough a 23 year old financial advisor was chatting me up today. I mentioned how he is experiencing something similar but different to what I did when I graduated. He graduated last May, I graduated May of 2008.
