IDK. I'm not a Michigan resident and have not been following Michigan politics. But Amash has said a lot of bad things about Trump so there is poor history between Trump and Amash. Trump would likely never endorse Amash.
But personally I like Amash because he would vote against a lot of deep state legislation whereas Rogers will promote deep state legislation. However from Trump's perspective both will do things to hurt Trump. Amash is open about it whereas Rogers will be sneaky.
In this particular situation Trump is probably thinking he can win Rogers over and use him as a friend. Rogers will eventually stab him in the back. I can see the knife. Trump apparently can't.

How was that "fealty" to Trump? That was my POV analysis of Trump's endorsement of Rogers over Amash.
