They weren’t “their” nukes. They were the Soviet Union’s nukes. Problem was that the people in charge in the West at the time (correctly) believed the civil authorities in independent Ukraine would be too corrupt and incompetent to be trusted with nukes so they had to negotiate a way to get them out of there.

This is it in one paragraph. Whether or not this production continues will determine how this war ends. From last night's attacks on Kyiv, it is clear that the campaign against the Russian launch sites is failing. This has to be corrected quickly and followed by a successful campaign against the production centers. If both of these actions fail, Kyiv will lose this war.
Yea I do fear unless Ukraine can set up or be supplied with sufficient patriot systems, Kyiv is going to be bombed into some form of submission by ballistic missiles over the next 12-18 months.

It certainly appears that way, but that begs the question; why does Russia keep throwing thousands of men against Ukraine’s ground defenses when they could just bomb Ukraine into submission?

"Total Blackout": Why Crimea is without power and what threat this poses to the Crimean Peninsula
Sergey Koval
August 20, 2026, 5:11 PM
A total blackout occurred in Russian-annexed Crimea after a fire at a substation in Taman, Russia, supplying power to the Crimean power bridge. Krym.Realii investigated the power transmitted via the power bridge to the Crimean peninsula and the consequences of this power facility's failure.
On the night of August 20, annexed Crimea was subjected to a massive attack by Ukrainian drones. According to the Telegram channel "Krymskiy Veter," citing its subscribers, explosions were heard in Yevpatoria, Saki, Feodosia (including near the Kafa electrical substation), Alushta, and the Bakhchisaray, Saki, and Nizhnegorsk districts.
At 1:45 a.m., a complete blackout occurred—the entire Crimean peninsula was without power, as reported by Crimean public groups and social media users.
The Crimean Wind monitoring group, after analyzing data from NASA Firms satellites, noted a fire on the Taman Peninsula in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. Thermal signatures covered part of the Taman 500/220/10 kV substation.
"It (the electrical substation – KR ) is a key element of the power bridge from Kuban to Crimea. That's why the power went out throughout Crimea at 1:45 a.m.," the monitoring group notes .
"The Energy Bridge is a crucial element in Crimea's electricity supply from Russia. Its peak capacity is slightly over 800 megawatts—more than half of the peninsula's maximum demand. Now that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have damaged all major generating facilities to varying degrees—the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant, the Tavricheskaya Thermal Power Plant, and the Sakskaya Thermal Power Plant—the Energy Bridge remains the main source. Its complete shutdown will not disrupt Crimea's power grid, but it will lead to very tight power supply schedules for the population. We could be talking about a 'two hours on, ten hours off' scenario," a Simferopol-based activist with the international movement for the liberation of Crimea #LIBERATECRIMEA, working in the energy sector, told Krym.Realii on condition of anonymity.

When is some of the logistics and supply attacks by Ukraine going to start showing a difference on the front lines? I get that they only need to defend but it hasn't exactly looked promising as far as most of the movements along the battle lines.

No large movements of tanks, but farming and public are waiting in line due shortages

Refinery in Perm hit again. This is the sixth time this year this refinery has been attacked. Notably, the ATV-4 vacuum column was hit in April and the ATV-5 three weeks ago. Something must have gotten repaired and pressured up, so here we are again.

Another large ballistic missile attack on Kyiv last night. If this continues, the city will be turned into the next Grozny/Aleppo/Bakhmut.

FIRMS from yesterday's Ukrainian strikes -

quote:
The Nizhnekamsk oil refinery in Tatarstan was attacked by multiple drones, with at least 6 different fires ongoing.
quote:
In the Krasnodar Krai the "Tamannyeftegaz" oil export terminal was also hit by Ukrainian drones.

Also, another important target was struck, the "Taman" electric substation (550 kv) was hit. This substation is the main one connecting Russia to Crimea.

First video is the first USV I've seen with such a serious radar array, second video shows some really cool automated object identification.

We can look into the future of this war by watching what happens to these TELs. These HAVE to be destroyed. Now. Top priority, stop everything else until this is achieved. If they aren't, the Russians will have regained the initiative.
