Russians Order Civilian Executions in Ukraine as War Crimes Mount
The Institute for the Study of War has reported new evidence that Russian commanders are systematically ordering the execution of Ukrainian civilians, marking a further escalation in Moscow’s violations of international law.
According to ISW’s Sept. 20 assessment, Russian troops from the 122nd Motorized Rifle Regiment (68th Motorized Rifle Division, 6th Combined Arms Army, Leningrad Military District) stated that their commander instructed them to dress in civilian clothing—an act of perfidy under the Geneva Conventions—and execute all Ukrainian men encountered in the embattled Kupyansk sector under the age of 45.
ISW analysts also confirmed geolocated footage from Sept. 16 showing Russian troops operating in the Lyman area while disguised in civilian attire, further corroborating a deliberate effort to blur the line between combatants and noncombatants.

If people find out about the real scale of Russian losses in the war, ithey eill undoubtedly realize how stupid Putin acted.

That Nebo-U radar alone costs $100 million. The Mi-8 are only around $2 million a piece but that’s still one less air asset. If I were Ukraine I would go all out on Crimea hunting down anti air systems and particularly their radars. Crimea is saturated with air defense systems just begging to be hit. Even if only 10% of them get through those air defenses it is still a major hit to Russia’s ability to cover their assets.

From ISW
Russia seems to be planning for a wider war.

Key Takeaways Russia has reportedly been forming a strategic reserve from new recruits since July 2025. The Russian military command may have assessed that Russia could afford to create a strategic reserve after Russian losses began to decrease in the summer of 2025. Reports that Russia is creating a strategic reserve further indicate that the Kremlin is not interested in ending its war against Ukraine but remains committed to achieving its war goals on the battlefield and may be preparing for a conflict with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Russia continues to test the limits of NATO’s air defenses over the Baltic Sea as Russia increases the frequency of its violations of NATO states’ airspace. Russian forces continue to develop drone technologies to increase the volume and precision of strikes against the Ukrainian near rear to further complicate Ukrainian logistics. The Kremlin reportedly dismissed former Northern Group of Forces and Leningrad Military District (LMD) Commander Colonel General Alexander Lapin from military service. Lapin has proven to be an incompetent commander throughout the war against Ukraine, but the Kremlin is likely punishing Lapin now as part of its ongoing campaign to scapegoat and punish high ranking officials for their failure to repel Ukraine’s incursion into Kursk Oblast in August 2024. Russian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Pokrovsk, and Velykomykhailivka.
Russia seems to be planning for a wider war.

Go back a page and read the story I posted about a Russian General who defected and says before Christmas they're planning a non-nuclear strike at Poland just to see what the response from NATO would be... betting that it fractures the alliance (probably heavily depending on Trump just backing out of doing anything).

I read that yesterday. ISW bolsters that post you made.

Siegle makes some good points but obviously doesn't understand what Russia doesn't need to do to "retool" for winter fuels. There is no actual retooling performed between seasons. N butane can be added to gasoline in winter months when temps are lower here in the US. They can add it whenever they want in Russia unless exporting to the West. As far as winter diesel that is only adding some naphtha to the diesel to thin it out for winter temps and known as Arctic Diesel. We used to ship it from the Gulf Coast to Canada all the time. A ship would load plain old No.2 Diesel then at the end add naphtha on top and the ships pumps would circulate it on the voyage to the St. Lawrence River to blend the two.

Russian attacks kill 8, injure 21 in Ukraine over past day
September 22, 2025 10:35 am
Russian attacks against Ukraine killed at least eight civilians and injured at least 21 over the past day, regional authorities said on Sept. 22.
Ukrainian forces downed 132 out of the 141 drones, including Shahed-type attack drones, launched by Russia overnight, the Air Force reported. Nine drones struck seven different locations, and debris fell in seven other areas, according to the statement.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian missiles hit civilian and industrial infrastructure, sparking several fires that destroyed apartment buildings, houses, and vehicles.
At least three people were killed and two were injured, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.
Russian drone attacks near Shalyhyne and Sumy in Sumy Oblast injured two 63-year-old men, the regional military administration reported.
Russian attacks against Dnipropetrovsk Oblast injured a man and a woman near Nikopol and Synelnykove, Governor Serhii Lysak said.
A 47-year-old man was killed, and two others were injured in a Russian attack on Borova in Kharkiv Oblast, according to Governor Oleh Syniehubov. Three more men, aged 35, 37, and 72, were injured in the region, he added.
Four people were killed, and four others were injured in Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast, Governor Vadym Filashkin said. Four more residents suffered from injuries in the region over the past day.

That's just not true
They burned through their entire stockpile of 20 million 152mm artillery rounds. Then they burned through another 3 or 4 million NK rounds (about half of which were defective). Now they're down to just firing what they can produce. Which is in the 2-3 million rounds per year.
It's similar with other munitions like rocket artillery and 500kg bombs. They have significantly fewer today than when the war started. Their use is restricted to production levels because old stockpiles are either greatly diminished or completely used up.

In Zaporizhzhia, rescuers have completed emergency rescue operations at the sites of air strikes carried out by the enemy in the morning.
This was reported on Facebook by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia region, according to Ukrinform.
"Emergency rescue operations have been completed at the sites of enemy strikes. Three people were killed in the air strike: two women aged 40 and 79 and a 77-year-old man. In addition, two young men aged 20 and 17 suffered injuries of varying severity and were hospitalized," the statement said.
An enemy aerial bomb destroyed a private one-story residential building and damaged neighboring buildings. During emergency search and rescue operations, rescuers recovered the body of a woman from under the rubble. Firefighters also extinguished a fire in a two-story building and five cars covering an area of 100 m², which caught fire as a result of a strike on the parking lot.
According to Regina Kharchenko, secretary of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, more than 80 homes were damaged in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the morning's massive air strike.
"After today's strikes, we have more than 80 damaged homes - 30 high-rise buildings and 54 private houses in three districts of the city. In high-rise buildings, windows were broken and balconies were destroyed, in private homes - roofs were torn off, walls and ceilings were cracked. Non-residential buildings were also damaged," Kharchenko wrote.

I think you're misquoting something, I've heard that they produce more now than they did at the start of the war. Which makes sense given the pivot with their economy to a wartime one.

*An alliance specifically built on stopping Russia finances, arms, and gives intelligence to a country Russia is at war with*
Well, yeah of course they are. If they weren't, they would be fools. Well, bigger ones than they already are.
I'd like to see some evidence that they plan on starting a wider war with NATO outside of some fantasy equivalent to "this guy who isn't credible said something that doesn't make any sense" like the supposed defector Russian general.
Russian media reports this same type of shite saying "NATO is planning a war with Russia" because it gets a reaction out of people (and is true, btw) but in reality they are reporting on what is almost assuredly contigency plans and not an actual planned course of action.

I hope you are right and Russia is just saber rattling to give NATO reasons to be concerned. No one wants an even bigger war.

Unless Putin made a deal with China to distract the US/West in Europe so that China is better able to take Taiwan.
