It's “a pointless war”, but it’s all Ukraine’s fault?

The war definitely has a point. It’s clearing Russia of surplus drunks and criminals, knocking down old buildings in the Donbass, and killing Ukrainians (Men, Women, and Children).
I’m sure Lord Bebo, Zlatti71, and ayden would agree.

Russia seems to be planning for a wider war.
The Russians are already exhausted, at least in terms of their Soviet Military Stock and it seems as though political support is up next to run out - I can't imagine the regular Russian being happy about a war with NATO.
I honestly think Putin is trapped. He has to keep fighting - he's put every egg he has in this basket. With his wartime economy, if Russia stops fighting the entire economy falls apart. He's taken so many losses he has to be able to justify the gains, but he has very little to show for it so far. So it could very well be even if he wanted to stop he couldn't.
My honest guess is he goes for the Baltic States - he would be mad to take on Poland directly. The Baltic States are only about 6.5M combined and with NATO disintegrating there's the chance he could just take on a fraction of them. I could see large parts of NATO backing the Baltic States but if we aren't going to do our job then other states are going to opt out, too.
But Putin has to get this war going if that's the plan - midterms are around the corner and then another election not too far off and he has to assume that there will be someone other than Trump in office and that changes the game - someone could be in power who backs NATO 100% and then Russia is back to being f*cked.

T55's up next?
They've already sent them.
I've read that the Russians are capable of producing about 4-5 tanks a day and they've reached that production capacity. They're losing just under that number, so while they may be stockpiling them, they weren't using them in a smart way to begin with, so I imagine their shifting to drone technology much like the Soviets tried to replace men with rockets in air-defense in the 1960's.

That's just not true
They burned through their entire stockpile of 20 million 152mm artillery rounds. Then they burned through another 3 or 4 million NK rounds (about half of which were defective). Now they're down to just firing what they can produce. Which is in the 2-3 million rounds per year.
It's similar with other munitions like rocket artillery and 500kg bombs. They have significantly fewer today than when the war started. Their use is restricted to production levels because old stockpiles are either greatly diminished or completely used up.
What about the artilery tubes, themselves? I remember that being a huge discussion here... how they would replace worn out tubes at the rate they were firing artilery.

Well, yeah of course they are. If they weren't, they would be fools. Well, bigger ones than they already are.
So, conversely, if the West and Eastern Europe aren't preparing for the possibility of Russia engaging in a wider war, they're fools.
