Same unrealistic shite that little kiddies pretend about.
It's mostly nostalgia from the days when we were little kids but Marvel movies>>>>DC movies because of their effective use of humor. Which they seem to have lost.
MOSTLY TRUE STEREOTYPE OF THE DAY: Lesbians aren't funny.

But $46 mil seems like a good opening?
Yeah, there's a big difference between low-budget/indie films, like say The Blair Witch Project, which cost $60K to produce/advertise but made $248M and is considered a massive success...
...as opposed to Studio films that spend $300M to produce and another $300M to advertise banking on a billion dollar haul, and only open to $46M.

I think there's just a lot of comic book movie burnout.
That's not it. Non-identity centered Marvel movies like Deadpool 3 will still make a killing, watch. And that movie will be rated R.

The "star" of the movie, the Director and studio big-wigs insulted their prospective audience.
Unless you are the mighty Don Rickles, this doesn't work.
Add to the fact that Brie Larson has the personality and sex appeal of a wet sock and you get, well, "Teh Marvels"...

Same shite can be said for professional or college sports.
It's called entertainment. There are many forms and it serves as a temporary distraction from stress and responsibilities
I mean, if you want to whittle down life, anything you do outside of earning a wage, maintaining your living space, growing food, or raising livestock, purchasing groceries is completely unnecessary.

quote:I mean I understand it there's been superman and Batman since long before this but I don't get the exponential output that Marvel is distributing and expecting everything to be a hit. Maybe the attraction is finally dying or maybe this one was just lame AF. I liked x men and the sequels back 20 years ago and Iron Man but after that I never saw any of the others really
Never understood the attraction.

Guardians of the Galaxy I is absolutely worth watching. The characters are kind of obscure but it's a home run. Absolutely hilarious. Avengers:Endgame is good, too but you really need to watch a lot of the others to fully appreciate it.

True, but there is a LOT of burnout on the subject and it means that people will pick and choose rather than just going for the sake of going.
The first Captain Marvel movie was basically a test pattern sitting between Infinity War and End Game, which were the two big blockbusters culminating all the MCU films to that point.
It drawing was a sign of how hot the main film series was at the second more than the quality of the film.

Very simply the writing and directing is bad and lazy.
Describe Tony Stark as a character
Describe Steve Rogers as a character
Describe Loki as a character
Describe Peter Parker
Star lord
Now do Khamala Khan
Monica Rambo
Teen Ant Girl
Kang
The writing is lazy. The material is worn out. The director’s arrogance shines through in their work. The MCU as we know it is gone and it’s not coming back.

Throw in the marketing costs and profit sharing with theaters, and it might need to make close to a billion dollars to return one cent of profit to Disney.
Realistically, these films have "budgeted" themselves out of profitability. Heck, even the Disney animated films have budgets of $200m or more. Throw in the marketing and the film needs to gross $500m, $600m globally to even threaten turning a profit. They aren't moving toys/merch. There is no secondary market because they go to D+ which still doesn't make any money.
They broke the business model and haven't fixed it yet.

What sucks IMHO is that Cassie Lang (Teen Ant Girl) is actually fairly decently developed in the comics.
Her dad was in The Avengers, Heroes For Hire, and other groups while she was young and she often wasn’t allowed to spend time with him.
She went to investigate the ruins of Avengers Mansion to see if she could find proof he survived being blown up only to find out that she had gained the power to change size based on how she was feeling at the moment. (Ex - feeling sad? Shrinks. Feeling pissed off? Gets taller and stronger.)
One of the more interesting fights I remember her in was when she ran across the third Ant Man, who was trying to claim that the pervy behavior he did was actually by her father, not knowing who she was to him. She tried to kick six shades of shite out of him before being stopped by the other heroes present.
