I think there's just a lot of comic book movie burnout. There was a point in time where they were enjoyable, then writing gave way to special effects, and the whole genre just became a chaotic mess. Plus, lots of people avoid theaters entirely now. Too much culture. Too often don't feel safe out at night. Too much alternative streaming product.

So it hasn’t made any money. It has to make 254 million more before it profits a single dollar.
The theatre gets half of sales right? So a $300mm all in movie needs $600mm in sales to break even.
This thing is going to cost them $150mm min and no one will be fired.

Haven't been to a movie since 2008.

Brie Larson has the personality of a dead moth.

And more pain is coming. Sony is getting ready to release an all-chick movie that takes place in the Spiderman universe. Think all-female Ghostbusters with web shooters. There seems to be a growing consensus that it'll land with a thud.

Disney has been taking a beating on all this activist driven crap. They have a new movie coming out - Wish. I cannot wait to see what kind of woke bullshite they shove into it and then blame America for not being progressive enough when it shits the bed.

I have quit going to the movies. I don't want to support Hollywood anymore. There are better things to do with my time and money.
If you have also cancelled cable and completely walked away from college/pro sports, then you're on the right track my friend.

Irony being that the Ms Marvel actress is the least insufferable character of the bunch.

I don’t think it’s half. I have actually heard it’s pretty damn small. Theaters make it up on the snack and drink sales.
But the studios do market it… so they have those expenses as well.
All in all another woke flop and more bad news for people who, for some reason, still have stock in Disney.

Throw in the marketing costs and profit sharing with theaters, and it might need to make close to a billion dollars to return one cent of profit to Disney.

But $46 mil seems like a good opening?
It’s not for a Marvel movie but this one has currently made $161 million which is still very bad as that number won’t grow a whole lot more since it’s already been out three weeks. I seriously doubt it gets the surge The Elementals did late to make that movie a success. This one just looks like a bad movie. Woke has nothing to do with it.

Same unrealistic shite that little kiddies pretend about. Never understood the attraction.
I’ve no interest in Marvel’s woke phase but speaking in very general terms is there some rule out there that movies must be based on realism?
“Die Hard” is one of my all-time favorites but do I really believe a NYC cop is going to take out an international terrorist group by himself at the top of a Los Angeles skyscraper?
It’s called entertainment and escapism. Many folks get plenty of reality in their day to day.

They get 50% for the first couple of weeks. That's generally included in marketing costs.

Its woke as F though
I saw it with my wife. It was pretty bad, but I didn’t notice anything particularly woke about it, except the cast selection. It was just a weak story with no real point to the movie.

Studios take 98% of the ticket take in the first weekend, each weekend after it’s less and less of a percentage. That’s why the first weekend is so important to studios.
I know, I used to manage theaters.

Checking every PC box on the planet seriously limits creativity.
If you want to make a movie, make a movie. I liked Bridesmaids just fine because it sold itself as a comedy, not a feminist infomercial.
