As long as the DA and Judge do something to the assailants as well. Cool.
Easiest way to catch perp and car is to follow them with drones. Find their homes where they park and go arrest their arse.

Both. If they are caught with a stolen car, the donuts are the least of their worries.
Also, if it is actually their car, or parent's car, it would be a real bitch to have to pay for a car that has been confiscated and crushed. There are probably better uses for a confiscated car, but at least no court idiot can make that cube unfold.
Makes a good PR message to young fools in any event.

I’d rather spend a week in jail than have my car crushed. I’m assuming insurance doesn’t cover that

They just glossed right over most of the vehicles being stolen. How is crushing a stolen vehicle teaching them a lesson??

I would assume that a quick look at the VIN would solve that problem.
