Yep, it's collateral damage. I think it's HB477.

I don't see one of the bills listed that I am in favor of.
Maybe you could clear it up?

Collateral source rule change is being vetoed.

BTW, I think he is just vetoing one bill HB 423.
That’s the one that several weeks back, The Hayride, which certainly seemed to be big supporters of Gov Landry, wrote:
quote:
a huge coalition of business interests in the state – LABI, NFIB, the homebuilders, the loggers, the truckers, the builders and contractors, the insurance companies, obviously, and a goodly number of others – came out forcefully for the bill when it moved through the legislature and are now demanding that Landry sign it.
quote:
But if he vetoes that bill, and the veto sustains, Jeff Landry then becomes the Republican governor the business groups can’t trust.
Not to mention he shakes the trust Seabaugh and lots of other members of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus, plus lots of pro-business legislators, have in him.
quote:
Landry can’t afford to veto that bill. It’s a real shame he’s even considering vetoing it. He might find that making a deal with trial lawyers like Gordon McKernan to get elected turns out to be a mistake that greatly hamstrings his ability to govern successfully.

Can't they override a veto?
Technically? Yes.
Realistically? Not going to happen.

With 2/3rds vote in both chambers, yes. IF they elect for a veto session.
Let’s see how many in the Legislature are willing to fight the good fight. A shame this extra step is even needed now.

That will be interesting. You finally got them in the final year of JBE to actually overturn a veto. That's after not overturning JBE's vetos for constitutional carry and dudes in girls sports the year before. And those were super majority GOP legislatures IIRC. It would be very La. GOP to now overturn a GOP governor veto in his first year.

Not one.
None.
The La. legislature is dominated by the insurance industry and has been for decades.
They will only change laws regarding insurance that benefit the insurance industry.

We would have been better off with Shawn Wilson. The legislature would have easily overridden a Wilson veto.

I don’t think they’ll do it. Too many won’t want to cross Huey P Landry like that.

He basically bent the knee to injury attorneys .
The bill would have helped insurance costs by addressing lawsuit abuse issues. Especially in the trucking industry.

They won't override his veto.
When Cameron Henry had Cleo Fields hold up the Con Con bill in committee, that was a shot across the bow. After going for five months, no one in the legislature has the appetite to come back to Baton Rouge to override a veto on this.
They reserved their veto override power for the trans bill last year.

So, he's endorsing theft.
Glad Gordon & Co. Are getting what they paid for.

Jeff has been bought and paid for. dumb Louisiana conservatives think they have something, typical.

It’s crazy they changed the 911 number to 8888888
