She needed to resign. A judge must hold herself to a higher standard. You cannot allow lawyers to have ammo to come at your verdicts. She provided the ammo. She did it, she shouldn’t have.
Would you want a judge who goes on a rant against white people?

She really had no choice on many levels. She is open now for an ethics charge by the bar and possibly other entities and any...ANY ruling she renders against an African American can be considered suspect whether it is warranted or otherwise. Any lawyer would petition to have her recuse herself....I know I would as a lawyer because my job would be to get my client off and I'll use any legitimate means at my disposal.
What sucks is that I know Ken and her in laws and they are good people....and by extension I would wager that she is a more than a decent person overall as well.

Reminds me of that NBA owner banished for much less. (Looking it up on Google)
Donald Sterling. The dude basically just asked his mixed-race side piece to not broadcast to the world that she was with black dudes. (He never used the n-word as far as I can tell.) He more or less gave her free reign. Just didn't want her telling the world she was dating black guys.
Thought crimes are definitely in the here and now.

Yeah, she should not have her license in the balance, but given today's atmosphere, that is not so sure. I've been in courtrooms and chambers where I've heard judges called names...derisive ones and where judges have called attorneys names and nothing happens...had one called a " Jew Bastard " and the judge smiled and said " That's right, and don't you forget it, I'm a Federal judge and I can be one."

Well, you cannot call someone that word in 2022 and expect to keep a job as a judge, ruling over a population that has a lot of black people.
I agree stepping down was the right thing in this case.

I do not use the N word in public or private. I just don’t. And I am not afraid of an F-Bomb. I don’t like it. I also don’t like the fact that ppl use as an example black people using it when addressing each other or in rap songs in order to rationalize it. I don’t think it’s ok when black ppl use it. I’ve said before I am a lover of words and the English Language and I just find that word vile. It is not in my vocabulary.
Further - friends of mine in Laffy who know this lady don’t even really think she’s all that nice. From what I’ve heard about her, she has that NOLA attitude that there’s a cliff at the edge of Jefferson Parish and the rest of the state doesn’t even exist; and is otherwise irrelevant - and backwards. What the frick ever New Orleans. You didn’t invent gumbo. You even put tomatoes in it
get over yourself.
All that said - uttering the N word is not a fricking crime. She didn’t use it on the bench. She didn’t address litigants in her courtroom with it. There’s no evidence, or even any allegation that she was somehow anything other than even handed as a judge and a lawyer. Her calling a common thief by a slur in her private home - is not some evidence of secret and unconcealed racial bias. She was pissed off that someone was breaking into her car, and had been committing b&es in her neighborhood. Where she lives. With her family. And nobody in law enforcement was taking it seriously. - She addressed that criminal like a scumbag. BC the person breaking into her car IS A frickING SCUMBAG. If she saw a white dude breaking into her car- I bet she would have found some equally vile language for him.
Her original statement about the pain meds was equally dumb. She should have just said - I said it bc I was pissed off at the individual I referred to by it. I said it in my private home. This is not a reflection of how I feel about black people generally, nor does it affect how I treat and consider litigants who come before me. I’m happy to answer any questions about my professional life you want to ask.
The fact that this woman, not to mention her entire family has been dragged thru the mud and humiliated over this shite - is nuts; if not unconscionable.

You should see her replacement. It’s a total surprise

I use it all the time, and I have black friends that I would invite over for dinner. Would I use it in front of them? No, I wouldn't. Just because I have respect for them as people. That being said, they're not "n-words" they're decent people. The people that were robbing, Judge Odinet were. I think it's fair. But yeah, this is a serious case of the hypocrisy of the current state of the nation. Unable to detect nuance and unwilling to admit their own hypocrisy.

So if a black judge was videoed saying damned honkey cracker hick whitey redneck white trash were robbing cars outside. they wouldn't have to resign.

The fact that you feel comfortable writing it out on the message board says enough. However, use the "n-word" and you're banished. That's all you need to know.

I use it along with a wide variety of vulgar language when I am alone in the car behind someone driving slow in the left lane.

See, this is what's wrong with modern culture. People have to pass through some kind of purity test to determine if they're a good person or not. Nobody cares that their actions are bad, just their words and political ideology. As long as that's okay, then everybody's happy. But a good person that uses "bad words" is a treated like a leper?
It's disingenuous bullshite like this that has infiltrated corporations, institutions, and political parties that is destroying America. Because people aren't real. They're a facade.
