Ain't going to lie, I actually found the dissent interesting
quote:
This whole saga is about how the arrogance of governmental power, left unchecked, can cause incalculable injury to the citizens who instituted the government for their protection,” Guidry wrote in a five-page dissent.
“Political actors maneuvered the creation of the office of Clerk of Court of Orleans Parish, and in an act of paternalism, substituted their will for that of the overwhelming majority of voters of Orleans Parish,” he later added.

Please cite the federal statutes, or US constitutional provisions, that were violated.
Potentially equal protection.
This would be the argument, I think: 1. The State treated New Orleans voters differently. Of course the counter is that the legislatute actually put Orleans Parish in line with the other parishes.
2. The move to abolish was retaliatory
Perhaps even racial. Big hurdle to clear here.
But there is a way to get federal review if very specific facts are there.
Didnt a federal district court rule in favor of orleans and issue an injunction? and 5th circuit reversed?

Does Orleans parish even have e-file yet?

She has some work or financial tie at stake

I believe all parishes now have e-file
*ETA: Orleans, ironically, only has criminal e-file on Clerk Connect
There are city courts ahead of Orleans

The Feds have had e-file for 23 years now. Just embarrassing.

I think they may have their own proprietary system like Jefferson, but I have my doubts. I do everything I can to avoid the worst court-clerk system in the developed world.

MWhy is this such such a hell to die on for the mayor and council.
I was wondering the same thing.
They are really butthurt about this.

I think it's just regular polarity we see today in light of the fact that they got big-dicked by Landry and the legislature over such a petty issue.

Considering New Orleans is economic driver of the entire state,
I know many of you NOLA folks think that, but that’s incorrect.
The energy/petrochem sector drives the state’s economy and it’s not even close.

They don’t like the rest of the state in their business down there for sure.
I was just wondering if there was some kind of racket tied to this. I have several attorney friends in NOLA that are pissed about this, but no one really can say what this hurts.

The civil clerk has its own e-filing system that is actually way better than clerk connect. It’s frankly my favorite efiling system.

I think just regular political patronage and public payroll jobs. I don't think there's anything nefarious about the office. It's more it's just wasteful and not necessary. However, on the scale of things, the wastefulness is very small which makes it Petty from the governor's angle

Look up the comparable GDPs for MSAs.

I actually did think of this immediately after reading your post. That we need to secede from the state somehow. The Territory of Orleans existed before the state of Louisiana.
This whole fiasco has been incredibly demoralizing. It’s hard not to be nihilistic.

Considering both offices are still open and both staffs are still employed. The only person eliminated was Calvin Duncan.

wastefulness
Harris County has 4.7 million people and one clerk’s office for district court cases. I’d imagine the payrolls are close, which is pathetic.
