Do you think they will have IEP in prison?

Will he learn consequences?

Entire life without consequence... time to learn

We need to bring back insane asylums, this kid needs to spend his life playing nintendo and eating graham crackers and taking his medicine for the rest of his life, as a ward of the state, for the rest of his life. Momma can visit whenever she wants.

We need to go back to Mental Institutes and could solve 90% of homelessness overnight, and probably 50% of overall crime. Who thought it was a good idea to shut these all down and let these wackos live on the street?

I agree prison should be reserved for violent evil criminals who frick around too many times, but there needs to be an in-between for people who are simply crazy. Born retarded.

I'm assuming this kid knows right from wrong regardless of where he came from.
No mercy.

He was bullied vociferously by Tip O'Neil and the gang. He couldn't regain control of the narrative and they forced his hand politically...a little more difficult than you implied.

He needs to be institutionalized either way. They haven't been able to control his triggers, reactions and behaviors for several years and almost certainly never will. The only question is which type of institution.

This.

The blame in this case IMO lies on the insistence that all kids be "mainstreamed." It just isn't appropriate in many cases.

The tendinitis of today. Everyone playing ball back in the day (I’m 42) had either an actual injury, or, tendinitis.

I’m not at all downplaying ADHD or Autism, both are horrible. It’s more our doctors today just diagnose one or the other, and throw pharmaceuticals at it.

This an awful situation. I hope none of you have to deal with a severely autistic child (and that's what he is). He should be Institutionalized, and no longer able to attend school. Jail will do NOTHING for this kid, abd it will cost the taxpayers a fortune.

He had PTSD, was a foster kid, etc...the blame to me is on the crackhead birth mother.

I can see poor little Brendan beating his adoptive mother to death because she didn't want to let him do something.

He really is a murder waiting to happen and, truth be told, he has probably laid hands on them before.

Agreed. Read the story and you will it's clearly NOT THE CASE with this kid

Exactly my point. I went into the story with a lot skepticism. I think the parents should have accepted that he could never be mainstream. I could also say that she should take more responsibility in her column, but I could also see a civil suit coming out of this and that doing big damage to her liability.

Still, the replies to this thread that act like autism, sociopathy, or psychopathy can just be willed away, or that they deserve no empathy, are fairly depressing.

I agree that we are FAR too quick to overmedicate spurious diagnoses. Those cases do not negate the cases that truly are mental illness.

I'm not at all advocating a lack of consequences here, but there sure is a lot of callous self-righteousness in this thread. Heaven help whoever pops up in your family with one of these issues.

Life has nuance. Keyboard warriors rarely do.

The dude charged her and beat her unconscious. As he was being dragged away he was spitting on her and screaming that he'd kill her.

I'm as empathetic as the next person, but that's a monster. You can call it callous if you want, but he's no different than a pitbull mauling a child at this point. So many people are dead or their kids are dead because they swore they could just nurture it away.

There's no helping this guy. He's damaged and he'll end up killing someone if he's not medicated 24/7 and/or locked in a padded cell.

If he's highly impaired due to autism it's likely he doesn't.

I agree with others that prison isn't the right place for this kid, he needs a mental institution.

The system truly failed him.
