BREAKING: Attorney General Keith Ellison to elevate charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder; three other officers to be charged with aiding and abetting murder, sources say.

Weren’t some lawyers on here worried this would happen? Could be risky?

If I had to guess, Ellison actually wants him acquitted.

Yeah, it's definitely risky. I guess they DA thinks based on the climate in MN it would be really difficult to find a jury that won't convict, regardless of what the charges are. His chances of an impartial jury are basically zero. In a vacuum, yes it's risky because what happened really might not fit the elements to convict on Murder 2

Absolutely zero chance of a conviction in a fair trial. Of course this would lead to more riots.

The higher the initial charge the more likely the acquittal... No way this dude gets a fair trial anyway... He has already been tried and good luck finding a jury of his peers... Maybe in Bangladesh?

Why? To just expand his political opportunism?

If they actually want a resolution they'll get this shite done as fast as possible and put the man behind for for a long time. Then we can all fricking move on.

Except the length of a complicated murder trial should put this solidly in the 5 year from now range. Just in time to torpedo a Keith wife beater Ellison presidential campaign.

Keith Ellison is going to frick this up. If the guy walks based on this, all blame needs to go to him. Murder 3/Manslaughter was a slam dunk. fricking idiot.

How did this crook Ellison become AG?

I am only shocked he isn't calling for an execution at dawn on LIVE TV and foregoing the IV but hang him.

1. They aren't dropping the lesser charge of manslaughter, are they? The jury can always convict on the lesser charge.

2. This is never going to go to trial anyway.

He will go the Angela Corey route if Chauvin doesn't get convicted.
