Last sentence of the article is crap:

quote:

The team’s moniker, meanwhile, was not derived in connection to Native Americans. The team was named after former Kansas City Mayor Harold Roe Bartle, who was nicknamed “The Chief” and helped bring AFL’s Dallas Texans franchise there, according to the Kansas City Star.

They play in Arrowhead Stadium and have an arrowhead on their helmet.

So it's okay to be named after an old white guy who apparently culturally appropriated an Indian moniker, but not ACTUAL Indians? Sweet.

So their nickname derived from a guy that was nicknamed after an Indian chief. Surprised they didn't get a hernia with that strain.

As we slouch further into the rapidly developing, emerging Huxley-Bertrand Russell New Age.

"Warpaint" was just a little too aggressive, militaristic a sounding name for an innocent horse.

Isn't it about time for us to just move on from tradition that hurts and demeans.

Tradition is so "yesterday" anyway.

The work will not be done until all Native American symbolism is wiped from existence. Our work is our burden.

They dug up an old tweet from that horse where he made some controversial statements about Black Beauty.

"We" are not the ones asking for this. It's like .0001% of Natives that are getting fame and money for complaining about all this crap.

I think you are right. I just don't see why the different Tribes are NOT standing up and screaming, "WE ARE NOT OFFENDED!" All I hear is crickets.

BTW, I'm Injun too. 1/32nd Choctaw and I am not offended.
