When most workers want to realize their value, they apply for other jobs. If no one wants to pay more for our labor, we get a reality check.
Sure sometimes. Sometimes I go and ask for a raise at current employer and negotiate.

When we start to realize that our jobs could be easily replaced by automation, the solution is not demand higher pay.
Perhaps but the spend on automation calc there isn't as straightforward as labor cost bad add automation..... There's time to deploy maintenance etc that all get factored in and increase the transition cost.

What we don’t do is walk off the job and throw a public tantrum.
I've definitely quit jobs over pay and working conditions. Mostly in college or highschool and less so once I went corporate. Why should I have to go work if I don't feel like I'm getting a fair deal?

I was just reading an article about this on yahoo finance. I then started reading the comments. Normally the commenters on yahoo lean heavily one way. I was surprised that 99% of comments were negative towards the strikers.

don't understand why we're so against dock worker raises on here. Who cares if those workers assemble together and negotiate higher pay for themselves. Good on them for realizing their value....
JFC you are a brainless liberal robot piece of shite.

$75 for a fricking port worker is more than enough. He doesn't deserve more than that. He doesn't even deserve that.

This... exactly why I have no sympathy for them. They're doing pretty fricking well as is. They're already paid too much. They can eat a fat dick and frick off. Bring on the robots.

This is why so many people think unions are a horrible thing. The workers are exploited but the guys at the top swim in $.
Seems like this Union boss is earning his money if the rank and file is doing well also…
That guy ain't doing shite. It's a fricking pyramid scheme. They just collect checks and then act like dicks every few years to try and get their members' raises so they get a pay raise. frick them.

No exaggeration, I risked my life daily at work in my early 20s (in the mid to late 90s) for $9/hr... in Southern California. I would have been beyond stoked for half of that $75/hr.

robots are going to take over, the union is better off negotiating a better pension or a pension so that they are protected after they loose their jobs.

What fkn value? They're minimally skilled at best. How do I know, who tf am I? Well, I'm not some yo-yo sitting in my living toom in Arkansas, I worked in the maritime industry my whole life and saw first-hand what they do and how. These are spoken for jobs with an occasional token hire to maintain some deniability. The most skilled are the gantry crane operators. I could do that but have a snowballs chance because I'm not properly connected. Most of these guys have jack shite for marketable skills. Value my achin' azz. The real guys who are underpaid are those like myself who spend long stretches away from home working ships bringing in the goods.

Now do ceos that manage a comparable sized organization
Except as you said this is an organization, a union, it’s not an actual profitable company. The union’s revenue is off of paid dues by members. You can’t compare his job to a regular company.
