Ford vs Carter

My first recollection of watching an election was Barry Goldwater/Lyndon Johnson in 64. I was 5 yrs old. Followed Nixon all the way down the hole in the 70's.

When I was in my very early 20’s working various route/driving jobs listening to Neal Bortz and Rush in the car.

Early like probably about age 16. I was basically conservative almost immediately with a few liberal tendencies that came from being young. But I was extremely interested in the founding of our nation and how we ended up with the Constitution we have. And I was very cognizant of the fact that government was a necessary evil and nothing more. My basic position has always been to basically say no by default to any question that starts with should the government do ___________. That doesn't mean I was an anarchist because like I said necessary evil. But it does mean I required convincing on almost any government power
As I Grew Older I began to recognize that some of my positions were failing to recognize this basic reality. Like I used to be back the blue to the death. And then I was like wait a second. The blue is the government. Worse it's the part of the government that can do all of the things that we don't want government to do!
Same for the death penalty. I was like wait a second. I'm supporting the government being able to effectively decide who would kill when the government has proven to be largely shitty and inconsistent and virtually every similar area. Again I really don't have a problem with killing criminals but I figured out that I shouldn't have confidence in the government doing it
But even with the changes my basic principles have remained largely unchanged since I was probably 18

80s, so during Reagan’s years.

In 1952 I was a good democrat and favored Stevenson

I'd say Nixon, but I was young then. More involved during Reagan's first term.

Regan's second election 1984.
I tell my kids all the time how great it was during that time, and how united we were as a country.
What a difference one generation (in some cases two or three) makes.
Whoever/whatever wanted this country divided did a great job.
Sad part is I fell for clinton

Just curious, was that a republican presidential primary? Never heard of Numphrey, but I was barely alive then.
He had a typo, it was Hubert Humphrey versus Richard Nixon.
Humphrey was the Democrat who won the WILD 1968 Dem primaries/convention.

The majority of this board believed the WMD claims and supported W’s invasion…
The amnesia about that time period is astounding as the narrative switched in a blink.
1) WMD’s included chemical weapons. Sadam had chemical weapons
2) It was documented that the Iraqi’s hid their shite all over, including primarily in Syria.
3) fricktard Saddam both wanted and sought nuclear weapons, to include materials for “dirty bombs”.
4) Sadam resisted efforts to inspect his shite.
5) Sadam repeatedly violated the terms of the armistice after the Gulf War, including violating the no fly zones and attacking US planes, which Clinton ignored.
The casus belli was abundant.
The idea of deposing Sadam and engaging in “nation building” is what was stupid and expensive and costly in terms of lives lost.

Watching this hour long NRA Ad from the late 90's about how UK and Australia lost their gun rights

This was a game changer for Bill. I was initially impressed as an ignorant 18 y/o until I dug a bit deeper on the advice of my baseball coach.

Definitely the Reagan years being born in 1971.

When I was in the 4th grade at Southdowns elementary school at recess. We had Kennedy vs Nixon fights at recess. My teacher had to give a speech explaining that Catholics were not anti American. My mom was for Kennedy and dad was for Nixon. There was tension in the house hold. lol.

I am 47. I remember waking up early in High School to watch the Rush Limbaugh TV show, so I guess I started early.

After 9/11 I started listening to AJ and never viewed the world quite the same since. Then I discovered Jared Taylor and became the man I am today.

Question for old timers on here
Why did Michael Dukakis, a liberal, do so well in Cajun areas of Louisiana?
It’s not like these folks were raging liberals at the time. They were conservative
