I was 8 years old and I remember watching this as it was broadcast with my grandparents. Good times, they were.
Even as an 8 year old urchin with no understanding of the world, it felt immense and significant.

I wish I had been alive to see the fall of the wall and German reunification on live TV
I have some German ancestry and am pretty proud of it. My great grandfather's cousin was president of the Reichstag before the Nazis won a majority of seats and replaced him.
I watched the East Germans flooding into West Berlin on television and cried. I was so damn proud to be an American.

All anyone has to do is just listen to the reaction of the crowd at the utterance of each line.
Open the gates. Massive cheer.
Tear down this wall! Even bigger cheers.
All of the Hollywood producers and script writers from DC to Los Angeles could not manufacture a moment like this.

Yes. Emotional and full of pride that our way prevailed. Seeing the overwhelming joy of the German people as they knocked down that wall was awesome. Much like the feeling when the men’s hockey team beat the Soviets at Lake Placid.

hey said this man had dementia, but facts are facts.
It is well documented the issues he had at the end of his Presidency. But he is still the one of our greatest Presidents and my person favorite.

Still the best president of my lifetime.
By the time Reagan concluded his second term the Democrats were listless and reeling.
All George HW Bush had to do going forward was not frick it up…..which he couldn’t help himself but to do.

Dementia. I saw one of his staff talking about a particular meeting. He said we knew something was "coming and going" in his alertness, but his sense of humor was so dry it was sometimes difficult to tell.
We had just been briefed by the military about the soviets and the airstrip in Grenada. It was obvious that we need to send down some forces to stop it and could easily use "the cover" that we were protecting US students there.
They finish their assessment and dead silence, we are all waiting on the president to make the call. After a long pause, Reagan pushed back his chair and said "What do you think the Duke (John Wayne) would do?
We looked around at each other with wtf expressions.....then he burst out laughing and said "Isnt it obvious, get busy fellas".

In the other thread Powerbottom claims the October surprise from 1980 was real and admitted by a Lt. Gov of Texas at the time. A Democrat.
An old man was told a rumor by another old man about something he overheard a half-century before and that's "proof."
