Your thread comes from ignorance. You read something and believe it without sourcing it. You are parroting what other people post and posting what you think they want to hear. You should try posting original thoughts and not another person’s opinion.
McCarthy was not a good man. His military record is almost completely fabricated. He wrote a letter that was supposed be from his commanding officer, so he would get accommodations. He lied about how many missions he flew, so he get accommodations. He even lied about being wounded in battle
He was a very good liar and con man. It took years for most people to figure it

Here's a couple of shockers for you: Honest Abe Lincoln actually told lies. George Washington was infamous for misinformation. And Bill Clinton did have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.

Yes Biden lies, but that’s not what makes him a bad president. Politicians lie, but not all lies are equal. McCarthy’s lies were probably the worst of any politician. It wasn’t just a few it was hundreds and most people believed them. He was so popular he could have been elected President if it wasn’t for Eisenhower.

Even in the late 1990s at a very conservative private school we were taught in US history that McCarthy was a crazy loon. History being written by progressives has been around a lot longer than just recently.

There were literally hundreds of active Communist spies in Washington government roles. That’s been established now. Only the old heads who read union emails at face value in the 80s are still castigating McCarthy for lying.

Ann Coulter's book on McCarthy is great. The end notes are extensive proving that 100s of 'lies' by McCarthy were true.

The best way to get someone to believe a lie is first tell them unbelievable truths. He told the truth when outed 150 plus communist, socialist, and spies. How did he get this list? He got it from intelligence agencies. These people were already known and he outed them. Some of the spies had been watched since the early 40’s. He even outed double agents the Soviets didn’t know about.
The truth gave him credibility and after that he started making shite up as he went along. It wasn’t just one lie it is the amount he told, because people believed whatever he said.
Innocent people were losing jobs, homes, friends, and families. People were turning in family members and friends that were innocent because they feared that spies were everywhere.
His truth was just as bad as a lie, because it hurt the fight in the Cold War, caused panic, and scared the average person.
McCarthy started his political career as a Democrat. He lost his first election then he changed parties, so he could get elected. His strategies were the same that Democrats used in 20’s and 30’s to start off telling a big truth.
He told the truth, but it was followed by multiple lies.
