If he does not get the 50% + 1 today, he is toast in the general. It's Gingrich's old district so its been Republican since about 1980. If the cumulative Republican vote is 52% or better, Ossoff should just concede now

Of course. If he had Conservative values he would be a Republican, Libertarian, or some other 3rd party. If he were Conservative and was running as a Democrat, he's aligning himself with the Democratic platform broadly and is either a liar, a deceiver, or stupid.

right people started using the term "[fill in the party] In Name Only" because all conservatives are republicans, all libertarians are in the LP, and all liberals are democrats.

I haven't been following this race but the Rodney Alexander Gambit can be an effective way to gain funding in a crowded race. It is pretty sleazy though, taking Dem money with every intention of switching parties.

I think Jon Ossoff has a really good chance to win the special election in Georgia's 6th Congressional district. He's a pretty impressive guy, a scholar, and an accomplished writer, and what's more important, an old fashioned Southern blue dog Democrat who favors a strong national defense and budgetary responsibility. He seems to be as far removed from the Pelosi/Pocahontas wing of the party, as Beethoven is from Spike Jones.

What does the board think about this?

I think he should actually live in the district he wants to represent.

Each party has a set of beliefs or positions it takes. The party name is a label that people identify with to let voters know (generally) what they believe and where they stand. A Democrat that doesn't hold to the majority of the Democratic platform should probably change their party just like a Republican who doesn't hold to the Republican platform.

It's like saying Muslims are really Christians because they mention Jesus in their scriptures. Labels have connotations that mean something, and if a label doesn't accurately reflect that which it is meant to describe, a different label is needed.

Are you saying this is not true? It would be hilarious if he misses the 50% by 1 vote...the one he couldn't cast for himself since he doesn't live in nor vote in the district.
